    Alan Moore for Ireland Squad

Has Alan Moore done enough for a recall for the Ireland Squad? ( 3 goals in Champions League Qualifiers ).

I know that the return leg will be on the same day as the Ireland v Bulgaria match ( or maybe the day before ) so this would rule him out regardless, but if the matches didn't clash, do you think he should've been called up?

Fair point. But lets hear no more talk of yer man O'Flynn for Ireland in that case ( especially given his scoring ratio in the Intertoto Cup ). Good player, but certainly not in good form this season.

    I agree with you

Haven't seen Moore in the flesh so can't comment on his overall game. He certainly looks like new player of the season but will need to keep the form going against Deportivo to get into irish squad.

If Moore (and Hoolahan for that matter) impress against Deportivo I don't see any reason they shouldn't be considered, I thought they were the best two players on the field last wednesday (although Heary was excellent).
Moore has been capped before and is relatively experienced.
Hoolahan kept Andy Reid warming the bench at U21 level.
Add good performances against World class competition and the fact that both are mid-season as opposed to just back in training and that'd be enough for me to seriously consider it.

I'd have Hoolahan in before Moore if I was picking one mid fielder from Shels to be called up, he's been fantastic all season long.

That's interesting about Hoolahan keeping Reid out at U-21 level as I think they both are very similar players in build and ability, hopefully in 5 years our best players will ply their trade here than in the lower divisions of England

Thought Hoolahan gave the ball away very cheaply against split, if thats the critea being laid down. Infairness though, I haven't seen enough of him over the season to pass to much comment overall.

Squad: Given (Newcastle United), Colgan (Barnsley), Kenny (Sheffield United), Finnan (Liverpool), Cunningham (Birmingham City), O'Brien (Newcastle United), Maybury (Hearts), O'Shea (Manchester United), Carr (Tottenham Hotspur), Doherty (Tottenham Hotspur), Breen (Sunderland), Miller (Manchester United), Quinn (Sheffield United), Keane (Manchester United), Holland (Charlton Athletic), Kavanagh (Cardiff City), Reid (Nottingham Forest), Barrett (Coventry City), Kilbane (EVerton), Duff (Chelsea), Lee (Cardiff City), Morrison (Birmingham City), Connolly (Leicester City).
i's imagine a few will pull out of that and maybe Moore will get the call

The first two boys dont play at a "high" level but have never let Ireland down. Barrett is extreemly over rated and doesnt even make the Coventry team every week. Have seen him made look pretty poor by the likes of O'Flynn, Hoolhan and others in the past.

Hoolhan, Moore and perhaps Fenn cant be far off call ups if some players do withdraw.
    Oh no not them again

Fenn has a great touch but is too damn lazy to deserve a call up.

murphy has fantastic control, the right level of agression and is very intelligent in his play.

he doesnt lash the ball up the park -if its a long ball, its really a long pass!

Its not just Moore, look at the above - ive taken out the 'best' players - can you honestly say that we couldn't replace most or all of the above with players from the eL without lowering the quality of the squad.

Come on people, you are really overrating the standard of our league. Alan Moore is a player that couldn't get into the Burnley team (he started just 15 games in 3 seasons), when he played he never stood out as he does at Shels. All that shows is the English division 1 is a higher standard than the Eircom league. As for some saying he played well against "World class opposition". First of all Split are not World Class and secondly, once Shels play well their best players usually do play well. If he was a RB holding his own against someone like Duff he deserves credit or if he played well and the rest of the team played atrocious he deserves extra credit but not a central midfielder.

Anyway, does Ireland actually need any more central midfielders or left midfielders for that matter? Kerr knows the LOI more than most so we'll leave it to him.

Were talking about Moore based on his performances in europe, so what he's done says nothing about the standard of the league as he's barley played in it.

Of course it does. He couldn't make the Burnley team and now he is one of Shelbournes best players.
