I like the look of Forde. Solid, unfussed and a mammoth kick out. He has a presence, an inner confidence that calms his defenders. OK, I've only seen him play about 100 minutes, but that's what I noted in him!
I saw him play once last season at Leicester, conceded four that day and one was very saveable. However his kicking was spot on all day, there was a lad on loan from Man City making his debut for Leicester at CB and he was struggling, really struggling, and Forde kicked repeatedly, and accurately just in over his head all day long, causing all sorts of problems, spotted it very early and punished it.

Nicely judged. Is like to see him given a run out against Croatia.

I don't know. It almost seems like more of an achievement when the centre has been ejected from the game by the umpire before the halftime.

Is there anything better than a short-handed goal when that happens?

You're right. There is nothing more dandy than a heel-kick short-handed goal right on the hooter, after regulation time.

I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Terry Phelan being described as 'Super Mario' on the wing in USA94 by the American commentators will live long in the memory......

all things considered, everyone being fit and well, I wouldn't. The imperative against Croatia has to be getting the team right for Slovakia and then Russia.
If they go well, hopefully there will be plenty of friendlies from November - May to experiment ahead of the Euro's.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!

Ireland always have someone on the Injured Reserve list though.

"winningest" the most contrived word I ever heard. What ever happened to 'most successful'. What is happening to the English language?

I actually couldn't believe it when I saw it in a US newspaper. Flabbergasted, I was.

But this is in a country that talks about teams in the singular.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

In 1350 Aristotle (the Greek philosopher) said: "To do is to be."

In 1450 Sartre, the French impressionist, said: "To be is to do."

In 1575, Sheakpeare, as we all know, said: "To be or not to be."

And in 1966 Frank Sinatra capped it all off with: "Do be do be do"

Ah yes but in 1914 Marcel Bich, founder of the Bic pencil company, said: "2b or not 2b?"

A country that talks about teams in the singular and plural within the same sentence.
