Setanta to run Old Firm channels

    From todays Irish independent:
IRISH sports broadcasting group Setanta has done a deal with Celtic FC and Rangers FC to operate TV stations for both clubs.

Celtic TV and Rangers TV will launch on Sky, initially to UK homes but with future plans for overseas distribution.

Setanta is also launching an Irish channel for NTL's 340,000 subscribers.

The Celtic and Rangers services will be similar to the TV channels of Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Central to the programming line-up of both channels will be the clubs' latest Bank of Scotland Premierleague game on the Monday evening of each week.

Other channel content will include news, interviews and pre-season tours and friendlies.

Setanta and Celtic FC has referred the proposed joint venture to the Competition Authority for clearance.

Setanta recently signed an exclusive, four-year contract with the Scottish Premier League to broadcast 38 live football games each season.

    a celtic thread....

In fairness, ManUtd TV (if that's the model being used) is Rubbish. You'll already have seen the games or highlights before the game is shown, and read the interviews in the newspaper. The only place you gain is in the highlights or games of the reserves or underage teams, to see what the future holds.

Might get an audience here, but as Setanta's SPL coverage has shown so far, practically all the live games they'll show will involve Celtic, so will people really spend extra cash to see the game again on Monday.

    don't think so.

I can think of few things worse than Celtic TV 365 days a year

I couldn't care elss about the SPL although might watch a few old firm derbys like everyone else but can't even see hard core support watching the rest of the games *zzzzzzzzzz*
