Maire Geoghan Quinn
Eileen Desmond
Niamh Breathnach
Nora Owen
Sile De Valera....
I saw Mary Hanafin mention that she was one of only 13 female cabinet ministers in the history of the state.
I can think of:
Mary Hanafin
Mary Harney
Mary O'Rourke
Mary Coughlan
Gemma Hussey
Liz McManus ?
Countess Markeviecz
who have I forgotten?

Don't think Liz McManus was a minister either. Minister for state maybe....
To compensate, in recent history they've been National Bill-Signer since 1990, leader of political parties, often Deputy Prime Ministers, and current Deputy Leaders of 2 major political parties. Cushions the problem I think.Originally Posted by paudie

I've had a quick shufti through the cabinets since Geoghegan Quinn was appointed (the next female minister after Markiewicz). I count 11, who Paudie and Real ale identify. Liz McManus was Minister for State in Foreign Affairs. So Hanafin seems to be mistaken. Wouldn't be the first time an FFer got the sums wrong....
If you look at the last 4, they hardly make a good case for more!
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.
I'd never have thought of Eileen Desmond.
In fairness to Hanafin maybe she said 11 not 13 but I misheard her.
