Why does the Mayo League play there football in the Summer? It must be a major disadvantage playing in the major cup competitions out of season. Do all FAI Cup games have linesmen?
Kilmore have a nice trip on their hands, Cliffoney is about 20-25 mins past Sligo town. We went to Kilmore a couple of years back, took us about 3 hours to travel there and longer on the way back on a dark cold December day

Westport won the FAI Junior Cup in 2005, Castlebar(twice) and Erris have made semi's in recent years too and there is usually a Mayo team or two knocking about at the quarters stage in the Connacht Cup too.
Dont think linesmen are a requirement for the early rounds but they normally feature in the open rounds(last 64 onwards)

Simple there is very rarely any postponments, very good ground conditions for better football in most pitches. It has also led to some of the best club facilities in the country been developed. There is very few clubs that does not own there own pitch and has a club-house. A few clubs has also developed their own Astra-turf fcailities where u can train during the Winter. As a disaadvantage in FAI and Conaught not really though u are playing and training for 2 years. There has been sucess for Westport won FAI junior and Iorras and Castlebar Celtic hasw on FAI youths cups.

if athenry have strengthened their side from last year then they mite as well call this competition off!!!! Cathal Fahy is a big loss but they have equally as good players on the bench. Will Alan O Donovan not be in the Galway GAA Squad this year?
Carbury have a much stronger side this season, they have a lot of ex-rovers players now and will take some stopping in the league, but they have an awful tough draw in the Conn Cup, if they win it they'll have done it the hard way

who was the last sligo team to win the Connacht Cup? There just always seem to be the same story every year of 1 team who has loads of EX sligo Rovers players however they dont always get over the finish line. There is not much difference in standard between LOI and the latter stages of this competition anyways. Mostly fitness levels and a small bit of skill. Most teams would have a few players who have had spells with Longford, Athlone, Galway, Sligo etc How are Carbury doing in the league?
Ballinasloe won this comp a few seasons ago. Have been semi and quarter finalists a couple of times as well. will ye beat them? Have ye had any decent runs in this comp before?
i think this is the furthest we have got in the con cup as with all the mayo lower division sides this is a cup thats out of reach of most lower teams but if we get a good run you would never know we will give them a good game but as you have said ballinasloe have a good record in this cup so no doubts they will be favourites to win this game.

Abbey won it in 2006, Carbury were finalists in 2007 and Abbey made the final in 2008. Carbury are 2pts clear of City having played a game more

Lads when you look at the last 8 teams left in Connacht Cup from 2005 onwards its pretty clear that Galway are the dominant league
----------winners Runner-up beaten semis beaten Quarters
Galway -----4---------- 2--------- 5------------ 10
Sligo/Leitrim-1---------- 3--------- 3------------- 4
Mayo------- 0---------- 1--------- 3------------- 5
Roscommon--1---------- 0--------- 1------------- 5
the galway league have provided 21/48 quarterfinalists in the last 6 years, Sligo Leitrim 11/48, Mayo 9/48, Roscommon 7/48.

Athenry have only(only I say) made the last 8 three times in the last six years, albeit they went on to win it on each occassion.
Quick question:
Which clubs have featured most often in the latter stages(quarters and better) of the Connacht Cup from 2005 onwards?
no prizes for correct answer, only for a bit of fun and banter!!
