    11th June 1990

Ironic that on the day the world cup begins that this day 20 years ago Ireland took part in their first ever world cup game against England

and Sheedy stuck it in the net :-)

    Where has time gone.

Miserable day. Wet and windy if I recall correctly but thank heavens for Sheedy's left peg.

Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Rain came from nowhere and bucketed down. Luckily we were i nthe bottom tier and managed to shelter from the worst of it. Stadium was half empty too.

Where have the 20 years gone?

Great result albeit from a poor game.

This fixture was most memorable weather-wise for the fact that around 300 Irish fans (& Maltese crew) narrowly avoided drowning on the return leg to Malta after the game. Some eejit thought it was a good idea to 'sail' through local equivalent of a hurricane. And some.
