Anyone know what the connection is?

Shane O'Neill called up to the Yanks training camp. Centre to midfield, back to centre, back to midfield, now to centre.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!
Mike Magee is also in that U.S. training camp. He won the MLS MVP award and was joint top goalscorer last year. He has Irish grandparents (Robbie played with him at the Galaxy before Magee was traded to Chicago, and suggested we call him up).
In my view neither of them are likely to be on the plane to Brazil for the U.S.
Both O'Neill and Magee would be useful squad players for us but probably not starters -- given O'Neill is only 20 and has trained with Fulham I would strongly suggest the FAI make some phone calls immediately, especially given he was born in Cork and his father is an All-Ireland champion.
I hope this forces O'Neill into making a definitive decision (in our favour). He has stated his desire to play in the Premiership so If Fulham show interest in/sign him, I think O'Neill would be more likely to claim for Ireland because he wouldn't be playing in the MLS and subjected to the pressure from that environment and the prospect of spending more time in Ireland (where all of his extended family are) during the international breaks will likely appeal.
Patrick Bamford is really motoring for MK Dons, recently secured a move to Derby for the rest of the season now (on loan from Chelsea). Really good striker who has represented us in the past if im not mistaken.
A lad who would offer something straight away to the senior set up in my opinion
Yup. Has his own thread.

DID YOU NOTICE A SIGN OUTSIDE MY HOUSE...?
Paddy Madden's recent career trajectory is bonafide proof that Bamford and Grealish should not be fast tracked into the senior set up. They are too young, have only two dozen senior league appearances between them and haven't done it at a good level.
In any event, Bamford has declared for England and at his age, still has at least half-a-dozen years to think about declaring for his second choice in the event that that call-up doesn't arise.
Look at the amount of time and resources invested in getting Pilkington to declare and he was pushing 25.

The manager doesn't think he's Championship standard and he's been linked with a drop down the divisions to Scunthorpe. Frankly, I think he hasn't really been given a fair crack of the whip.
Madden has 10 appearances without a goal this season. Was completely jumping the gun to call up a League one player. Madden didn't stand out in the League of Ireland, never mind in England. Big difference between League one and Championship in my opinion.
https://kesslereffect.bandcamp.com/album/kepler - New music. It's not that bad.
Madden stood out in League 1, whatever about the LOI. There's worse strikers than him getting their game for Championship clubs every week.
He's obviously had a row with Johnson. I'm sure someone would be willing to take a punt on him.
O'Neill talks:http://www.mlssoccer.com/worldcup/20...closing-door-i“I was pretty shocked,” the 20-year-old center back told MLSsoccer.com by phone on Friday after the 26-man USMNT roster was announced earlier in the morning. “I’m going to go there with an open mind. I’m just excited with the text from Jurgen saying I was going to get called in.”...
“Obviously, just to get the opportunity to play at this level is fantastic wherever they want to play me,” said O’Neill, who earlier in the offseason expressed a desire to play in the midfield in 2014 after deploying almost exclusively at center back last season....
“Position-wise, it doesn’t really matter,” he said of his national team opportunity. “I’d play anywhere.”
He trained at midfield during his stint with Fulham last month. However, he expects to play primarily as a defender with the national team.
“I’m not going to rule out any possibilities for sure,” O’Neill said of his international future. “It’s just a training camp, and hopefully it’ll just be used as a good way to improve my game for the next couple of weeks.”
