The death of a man at the Tallaght branch of B&Q is being investigated by the Health and Safety Authority and gardaí.
The man, who is in his late 50s, was killed when he was struck by an object at around 2.30pm yesterday afternoon.
It is thought an item may have fallen fell from a shelf at the DIY store.I don't think i've ever heard a retailer saying that "fatalities in stores are rare". You don't expect to get killed in your local DIY store. In June 2001, a 70-year-old woman died after an accident involving a forklift truck at the DIY superstore in Dorset in England.
However, B&Q say they take safety very seriously and fatalities in stores are rare.
Shouldn't this be in Current Affairs if it's a news story?

Apparently not. It does raise a lot of health & safty issues. I've never heard of anyone being killed in a DIY store up to this & thats 2 now in B & Q.
I worked in the Public Liability claims section of an insurer in the UK and these types of claims and incidents really aren't all that rare, fair enough fatalities are but I've seen some serious injuries inflicted by stuff falling from shelves or stacks of things falling down on people, it'll be interesting to see what comes out in the inquest
