Aviva are a huge UK insurer who own Hibernian and Norwich Union amongst others. NU have been rebranded as Aviva in the UK recently and Hibernian Aviva will eventually become Aviva.

Sponsoring Lansdowne would be more about the Aviva brand and profile in the UK and rest of the world than Ireland particularly!

I would though like to see the proof that naming a damned stadium has any marketing logic to it, or a return on your investment. I can understand the value to advertising hoardings beside the pitch, or any standard branding of a physical space, but a building? I mean why stop there, why not buy the rights to the name of an actual location?

With a name like yours surely you should know why they can't leave it at Landsdowne Road.

The whole thing looked like an act to me. Was there any follow up to see if the whole thing was a put up job.

I spoke with my source again and the he has now confirmed that the ST story is broadly correct. Aviva had moved ahead of a direct competitior of theirs and now look likely to win the naming rights. He is not involved in the process and wasn't aware of this on sunday.

They said on the RTE six o'clock news last night that the stadium would be known as the Aviva stadium.

It will be Lansdowne Road to me til the day I die.

Cant believe people refer to the Point as O2 already, shocking.

Remember seeing Billy Connolly years ago and he walked out and said "Welcome to the Labatts Apollo, ****** its the f**king Hammersmith Odeon"
