If we had been lobbing long balls to him into the box against France
I expect he would have put five or six into the back of the net.
Hell lets get Paul Butler back and play him alongside Breen and hump the ball in at every opportunity I'm sure he would have put ten past the French
I was going to suggest this after seeing his goal at the weekend. Of course it's not a new idea....Originally Posted by tricky_colour

The man is a legend and his bullet header just backs that up!!!! Especially liked his celebration. From the heights of joy to the composed determined steely eyed glare of concentration in seconds. LEGEND!
Let him learn how to play at the back first before you consider putting him up front
I listened to the last seconds of injury time on R5 Live on Saturday. I just KNEW there was a goal coming. Macedonia all over again for poor Mick.
It seems like the 'keeper made an error in the build up to the corner. He also made a howler at Chelsea. I wonder if Murphy is getting close to a call-up?
Jayzus... I forgot Murphy was up there. He may well get a nod!!!
He did, he came for the ball and failed to claim it, Hoyte (on loan from Arsenal) cleared it off the line for the corner that lead to the goal. Giles made the observation on the Premiership that he appeared nervous the more the game went on and this spread through the team, making silly decisions like lumping the ball long when a defender was free to keep possession. He was class in the Championship last season for Ipswich, he just may need time to adjust to the PremiershipOriginally Posted by Stuttgart88
Lads I hope ye all havent forgot the crucial volley Gary Breen scored for us in the WC, that was a damn fine goal.
In fairness to the man, he has had many a poor performance at club level, but he has being consistent and always did quite well for us, never could question his commitment.
If i remember rightly he had such a good WC that he had clubs all over europe after him, then he chose West ham-ah well.
On the side speakin of WH, hows clive clarke getting on does anyone know? did i hear he got injured, surely he's due a call up!?!?!?
But seriously elroy, there's no ****ing logic in putting him up front!!

Sure when we are at it why not put Delap up front? At least he has played as a striker before and he also got two sweet headed goals against the mighty Aresnal last season. He's sort of disappeared since then though I reckon he would be at least as good as Doc anyway.
You could say the same about Doherty. In fairness Breen has scored a lot of goals for us as a centre back ( 7 in all, Doherty has just 4 although in half the number of caps but he has played up front more often that at the back ). Surely Breen would score more for us if he's up front for 90mins each game? He has a touch 300 times better than Doherty, that's for sure. I can particularly remember a goal he got when he took a touch when it dropped to him before blasting it to the desired spot.Originally Posted by superfrank
In all seriousness I'm not suggesting we use him as a first choice striker! I am however saying that he is technically a much better player than Doherty ( with a good international goal tally for a centre back ) and he should seriously be considered instead of Doherty. That said I would go for Connolly against Cyprus and maybe consider calling up Neale Fenn or Jason Byrne to the squad as cover ( or both ).
The Doc is 4 in 29
Breen 7 in 63
Cunningham 0 in 67
O Brien 1 in 20
Dunne 4 in 23
So given the Doc sometimes plays up front his record is not great, infact Dunne's
is the best overall. I just thought Breen's headed goal was one any striker would be
proud of. His one in the world cup was a great touch too.
