The A1GP team won the A1 GP Title, I think that's a fair shout.
RTÉ Sports Team of the Year shortlist:
Kilkenny Hurling Team
Leinster Rugby Team
Team Ireland A1 GP Team
Cork Ladies' Football Team
Bohemian Football Club
Irish International Rugby Team
Kerry Football Team
The team behind Sea The Stars
How in the name of god is the Irish soccer team not on the short list?
For frick sake, the A1GP team and Cork Ladies??? Give me a break. The performance in Paris alone merits being ahead of those jokers.
No footballer in the nominees for the sports person of the year either
shambles
The A1GP team won the A1 GP Title, I think that's a fair shout.
Because all the listed teams achieved notable success over the year? While the soccer team were the plucky losers once again.
And I certainly don't think it's fair calling the A1 GP or Cork ladies team "jokers". Just because they're less established or popular sports doesn't diminish the achievement of any success they might have.
besides, if they were nominated or not it wouldn't matter, the rugby team were always winning that award after the grand slam and going unbeaten for an entire year.
Details of the team here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A1_Team_Ireland
All Irish drivers (Firman was born in England, but has an Irish passport)
The Cork Ladies Football Team won the All-Ireland for the 5th year in a row a massive achievement no matter what the sport is.
This country has a history of rewarding second place. All the nominated teams WON at their respective sports.
As much as I love the Irish Soccer Team they didn't win! It's about time this country started recognising winners as for too long 2nd, 3rd and 4th place has been classed as a major achievment.
Look at the individual nominations for christ sake..........
Rory McIlroy (Golf)
Katie Taylor (Boxing)
Brian Cody (Hurling)
Olive Loughnane (Athletics)
Brian O'Driscoll (Rugby)
Shane Lowry (Golf)
Bernard Dunne (Boxing)
Paul Galvin (Gaelic Football)
Somebody tell me why in the name of god is Bernard Dunne nominated????
It seems to me he's only nominated so as to prove my point!
LESS OF THE BULL NOW!
the team played great and was a credit to the nation
the cork ladies were a credit to the 150 people who give a crap about ladies GAA. whereas nobody gives a crap about A1 Grand Prix. its some rubbish competition invented by some oil tycoon arab for no particular reason, its the league one of motorsport.
i'm sure there are schoolboy teams who have won titles for multiple years running. doesnt mean they are particularly deserving of an honour from the national broadcaster
i'm not suggesting that the team should win this award, obviously leinster and the irish rugby team would be far more deserving. but for anyone to suggest that the achievement of cork ladies gaa in winning a competition where there are at most 3 competitive teams year in year out is greater than going unbeaten in a world cup qualifying group containing the world champs and going to paris and beating the world cup runners up than i think thats just madness, not even roy keane would say that

It's an award for sporting merit not an award for "sports team who the most people give a crap about".
Presumably your like so many of our fanatical international side fans, actually a fan of English football, based on that particular analogy?. I'm not aware of its use anywhere else in explaining a ranking level as you are doing here. Hence the suggestion your a TV football fan of another countries football team.
If indeed, and I wasn't aware of it, an Irish team actually won an international motorsports competition then get it in the nominations. That is a fantastic achievement and one I'd never have expected given the wealth of motorsport talent in driving and technology in the world. It certainly deserves its place as do Cork Ladies Senior Football Team. They are after all nominations.

The Langerettes played in front of 22k in the final and about 180k watched the whole game on TG4, similar to the FAI cup final attendance and viewing figures.
3 GAA teams on the list is a bit much
Qualification for a finals is the minimum standard for the national team.
Bohemians deserve the accolade of the best soccer team, 2 in a row league winners and did alright in the European competition.
The International Rugby team and Brian O Driscoll clear winners for me. Much and all as I love the football side, they cant compete with what the rugby team achieved and O Driscoll was awesome in the last year.
Its really not that complicated!!!
Jesus wept. Kop onto yourself mate. One decent performance and they deserve to be team of the year? They came on a hell of a lot from previous years and that's all down to trap but to say they're even close to being team of the year is comical.
4 wins 6 draws and they should be nominated?
Kilkenny Hurling Team - How many AI is that now? 4?
Leinster Rugby Team - Heineken cup champions - enough said
Team Ireland A1 GP Team - World A1 Champions
Cork Ladies' Football Team - 5 AI in a row now is it?
Bohemian Football Club - 2 LoI's in a row, first time retaining in their history.
Irish International Rugby Team - Grand Slam champions, went the whole year undefeated
Kerry Football Team - AI champions again after some excellent displays particularly against Dublin
The team behind Sea The Stars - Don't know much about this one though although I'm sure there was a huge achievement attached to it
There's a LOT more teams deserving of the award then they are.

the egg chasing chaps will win the team award and Cody wil get the individual award.

Who is Paul Galvin and what did he do?
the more difficult the challenge, the greater the sporting merit/achievement as far as i'm concerned.
cork ladies basically had to win 2 matches of dubious competitive standard to win the all ireland. there is no other competitive team in munster. and the very few remotely competitive teams in the rest of the country are clearly inferior. besides, the standard of ladies football is atrocious. you'd see better quality watching the worst divisions of junior male football in dublin.
A1 GP is a commercial enterprise only recently dreamt up that is nowhere near the pinnacle of motorsport. its best drivers are F1 teams discarded for lack of talent.
Further, as someone else said, the team behind sea the stars is not even a team.
by saying the above 'teams' are more deserving of recognition it is merely ridiculing the irish team's achievement in going through the group unbeaten and finally managing to beat a top side away from home for the first time in 22 years. in my opinion there was more 'sporting merit' (as you put it) in the performance over in paris alone than winning A1 GP or the ladies championship
i'm not in anyway suggesting that the team should win this award, and i've already said this in my posts above. i just think they are more deserving of NOMINATION than the cork ladies, A1 GP and the sea the stars crowd.
we get cheated out of the world cup and suddenly the team's performances this year mean mean nothing... only beat cyprus and south africa. like that tell's the whole story
witness again the pathetic attitude of league of ireland fans. same self-righteous nonsense that so-often gets spouted around here that basically unless your an LOI diehard, your word is muck. i've had a block-booked ticket for home internationals for donkeys years and follow the underage international set-up closely. so you can shove that condesending tone up your ar$eHarpsbear: Presumably your like so many of our fanatical international side fans, actually a fan of English football, based on that particular analogy?. I'm not aware of its use anywhere else in explaining a ranking level as you are doing here. Hence the suggestion your a TV football fan of another countries football team.
