    Coughlan

Why did we sign him? Only now have I recovered enough from the depression he induced on friday night to post about it. Candidate for the worst ever performance in a city jersey? He couldn't pass, he couldn't run, he couldn't tackle. The only thing he looked capable of doing was heading the ball IF it came straight at him. He ballsed up for both goals BRING BACK BENNO!

I dunno if you can blame Coughlan for both goals. It seeemed to me that both Coughlan and Murray were equally to blame. It was Murrays worst game for City IMO. The communication between Murray, Coughlan and Devine seemed non existent. Having said all that Coughlan was in terrible as he always is against nippy fast forwards. Coughlans always at his best against a big man with planty of aerial combat.
To my mind Coughlans performance just showed how much we need Bennett back in next to Murray. They had an understanding all through the season. I know Bennett made mistakes. There weren't that many but unluckily for him and more importantly for City they were punished.
Next Sunday at UCD Bennett for Coughlan and George for Behan !

I have to say I agree with Eanna. We could have used the money to get another striker, for instance. Derek is ok, but he is not an improvement on what we had already, so why sign him?
Maybe he will improve some bit, but he will never be able to run at any kind of speed. Needless signing.

I didn't get out to see the game, so I'm relying on the tv coverage, but it looked to me that Dan was at fault for the first goal.

Coughlan hasn't been that bad up to now. I thought he was great in the rovers game and been solid since then.
Derek isn't match fit yet and should improve.

How was Derek at fault for the first goal??
Murray and Devine should have been talking to each other.
Murray and Coughlan had a shocking game but so did a number of others.
City are a stronger team and squad because of Derek's presence.

of all the back 4 i thought derek possibly had the best individual game. he won everything in the air (as you would expect) and made some decent covering tackles. the real problem i thought was the lack of communication, sparked by the fact that dan and derek didn't look comfortable playing next to each other at all. both the fullbacks were exposed by the lack of organisation from the center halves.

dan is captain, and while benno was playing would have organised the defence. now suddenly dels back and nobody seemed to know who was in charge. if the 2 lads can sort it out, they could be a very good combo, better than dan and bennet imo. but based on fridays game, they've a lot of work to do. dan is captain and should take charge, but being a non citizen and relatively new to the club, you can understand why he'd be reluctant to tread on dereks toes (plus the size of coughlan i wouldn't like to be risking annoying him like!). its up to the 2 lads and dolan to sort out, but it does need to be addressed.

Murray was totally at fault for the first goal.

Derek had a tendency to go AWOL up the pitch later in the game as he was dragged out by the forward he marking.

That combo can only get better.

Yeah, Dan was at fault for the first primarily, but Derek was badly positioned for it IMO. My attitude is- if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and Benno and Murray were getting better all the time. The money could have been better spent. Agree with patsh though- hope he proves me wrong.

I think Derek has unsettled Dan a bit.He was playing brilliant stuff until coughlans return.

you could be right. Dan and Benno were foring a good partnership that was getting better by the game. I think Dan and Derek are too similar, with Derek being the poorer of the two by quite a distance.

Derek's biggest fault is that he cant run for his life but then again Murray's is if gets the ball(which he does alot) its always hoofed up to the left and most teams have copped on to this.

You're obviously either not very good at judging the performances of a footballer or you haven't seen Benno play much this season?
