TrueAs the national broadcastor RTÉ should be forced into covering it. After all government bodies have to do things in the interest of the public interest even if they aren't profitable.
I read in one of the Sundays that RTÉ and TV3 are currently trying to outbid each other to show live Premiership matches on Saturday afternoons.
It's a pity they don't feel the same about the national league.

RTE bitched & moaned about losing the irish internationals & wanted a licence fee inctease.
Now they got the licence fee increase all they've done is pay their top earners more (dunno why cos no one else will pay them anything like what they earning) & now have more cash to bid for foreign sport.
Can only imagine what RTE have paid for the rights to the Premiership highlights for next year.
btw anyone heard anything further if the tv3/eL deal has changed?
get the boys to call around
It's interesting because when TV3 had no exclusive relayed match they were not under contract to show any live eL games or the highlights.
But they did have highlights from the last game so maybe that could make a difference.
As it stands though the contract they signed to show a number of eL games doesn't count because they have have no relayed international games from what I can make out.
that would explain why we've only had one live game this season.Originally posted by niamh

Niamh, do you mean that the original contract is now null and void? I guess if it's not, why aren't TV3 showing the internationals live, seeing as they were part of the sky winning bid on the original package and they are a national TV station.
Yeah, due to new rules from the European Broadcasting Commisson the FA Premier League were not allowed to include Ireland in their UK deal with Sky as had always been done in the past.Originally posted by niamh

I'm not sure if Sky are allowed to bid for the Irish rights seperately or not. Hopefully they are and will out bid RTE/TV3 because at least Sky will be broadcasting to a much smaller audience. If the FA PL was broadcast on national terrestrial TV it would be very bad for the el.
Champions!
