Anyhoo - would appreciate some feedback as to whether you'd rate the following as I'm considering pick up this lot soon:

    Who's Next? - The Who
    Murmur - R.E.MDisraeli Gears - Cream
Exile on Mainstreet - The Rolling Stones
    My Way - Ian Brown
Yes in a big way to this. REMs first few albums are outstanding, though they've gone off the boil for a good many years now. Murmur is fabulous, as is Fables of the Reconstruction, probably my favourite REM album.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.

DEFINITELY pick up Who's Next and Exile. The former contains about four of the greatest hard rocking tunes of all time (Bargain, Baba, WGFA, Behind Blue Eyes) as well as a few other great songs that are a tad mellower. Exile, like Davey said, is genius and contains no duds. I actually had it on last night until about half way through the CD started skipping.

Murmur's also class, although I haven't listened to it in ages. Radio Free Europe and Pilgrimage are great, great songs.

My random recommendation: Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance. I've only been able to play it once so far but it's brilliant. It's hard to accurately describe it but it's like Captain Beefheart's Magic Band turning punk.

Listened to Murmur for the first time in years, just a great album. My Way is class, his best solo work.

While watching "I'm in a Rock N' Roll Band" (BBC2, Sat 8th May) it featured 70's band "Dr Feelgood" and guitarist Wilco Johnson.

They sounded great - spiky riffs, high adrenaline, the band were as tight as the preverbial crabs arse at 50 fathoms.

Going to take a punt on their first 2 albums - "Down by the Jetty" and "Malpractice".

Anyone heard them and are they worth a shot?
