Chris Hughton is getting the assistant job.

Hughton will only be taking the job on a part-time basis - what does everyone make of this. I believe that there's for and against. Ideally one would want a full-time assistant - however I'm not sure if many top coaches would be willing to vacate their club post to take up a full-time position with the FAI. Certainly our last two assistant managers were hardly top notch material, whereas I believe that Hughton is an excellent choice of assistant. So the question is, is it worth sacraficing a full-time coach for a top quality part-time coach. Seems to have worked okay for England (I will now be slaughtered for that remark!!)

it's worked pretty good for england so why couldnt it work good for us. in all fairness id rather have hughton working the hours he wanted than that last fool evans. A very positive move from the FAI

I'm absolutely delighted.
All this bull about him not having experience of senior players is laughable.
You could nit pick about any of the other candidates that were up for the job.
Kerr is Irish and will always put Ireland first.
He believes like Keane that Ireland should go to tournaments to win them not just to make up the numbers.

About Roy Keane coming back. I wouldn't be too worried if he does or not. I don't think he will. I will say this though.
He'll miss out on what could be one of the best periods for Irish football.

I can't wait for the next game at Landsdowne.

Whens the last time a small nation won any tournament let alone one with an underdeveloped national league. The only one i can think of is Denmark.

Even a part-time Chris Hughton seems a lot better than the unknown Setters & Evans. Hughton must be ok if hes survived so many managerial changes at Spurs as well plus apparently hes got the highest Uefa or Fifa coaching badge.

I don't think there's enough work there to justify a full-time assistant. You'd imagine that if we qualify for any tournament he'll work full-time during that as his club commitments would be less.
