Athlone Town Football Club are adamant that despite recent concerns raised by FAI Regional Development Officer for the Midlands, Padraic Nicholson, the new all-seater stadium at Lissywollen is on course for completion.

Chairman Paddy McCaul reiterated the club’s commitment to the project and told the Westmeath Independent that “work will be visible on the site within two months and we will be playing there the season after next. I have no worries about it.”

McCaul did accept Nicholson’s assertion that the new blood was required on the board and that better facilities were required. He cited Longford Town as a club with a progressive committee.

Regarding the new stadium he added, “I think it will change the way people perceive Athlone Town forever. We are over 100 years old and this year will be huge.

A public meeting is planned to discuss the stadium project shortly.
