    Chelsea Flag.....

    Imagine my shock when I turned to the guy next to me at the Wales game and asked "is that chelsea written on the flag over there...", when the guy infront of me turns around in a broad English accent and says "yeh it is mate, and I'm proud of it.....". Over 72,000 people there and he's in front of me!

    Anyway, I though it stupid that such a flag be there until I heard his accent, If it was some Chelsea fan reared over here taht had it I would have scorned it, BUT he was obviously reared in England, considers himself Irish and chelsea are the club he grew up supporting so fair enoughMust admit he seemed decent enough for a Chelsea fan as well....any opinions?

    I'm of two minds here. If he was reared in England, it's understandable for him to be a Chelsea fan, even if he is Irish. But they are still an English team, and have no place on an ROI flag.

    Curiousity question: Foreign crests on Ireland flags

    I've seen a lot of rants here about ROI flags with Chelsea crests, or Liverpool, ManU, Celtic, etc. All the crests I've seen mentioned are either EPL or SPL. Has anyone ever encountered foreign crests from outside the UK on an Irish flag? It would look rather strange to see a Barca crest, for example, on an ROI flag. Maybe when Ireland plays friendlies in the US, some Irish-Americans may fly a tricolor with the crest of the local MLS team.

    If I was at an Ireland game in the Republic, I would most likely fly a flag with the Cork City crest. Although I would be sorely tempted to use the Toronto crest, just to mess with people's heads. I'd get some strange looks, I bet.

    I remember seeing a tri-colour with Lazio in letters and a crest a few seasons ago on the Curva Nord in the Stadio Olimpico, Rome. Havent watch Italian football since then so I dont know if its still there.

    How would people feel if that made an appearance in Croke Park or at an away game?

    Maybe it could have something to do with the Celtic Cross being an emblem used by of neo facisms/nazis and they have now linked that to Ireland (obviously renowned as a Celtic nation but thats a very random guess) or more likely; it was an italian flag with the red faded to orange
    <insert witty remark>

    seems like the cheapskate's way out to me. why not have two flags, an irish one for irish games and a chelsea one for chelsea games. as it is perhaps a new sub-category of race, chelsea-irish, ought to be coined with the above mentioned bloke as the archetype.

    Dunno about Lazio but I have met the Roma fan who flies the tricolour at every home game.

    Funny you should mention that. I was at a game between AC milan and Roma nine years ago in the San siro and there was a triclour right in the middle of the Roma fans.
    I think I should the parachute, because I'm great.

    In fact, I think I should get both parachutes, in case one doesn't work.

    You know what was really embarrassing about the bus trip was the return journey from San Marino, when a certain person was expressing their racist views about potential players that may be called up to represent IRELAND in the future coming from the influx of immigrants now settling in Ireland......

    Often see tricolours at European games against English clubs usually the Italians have them. I presume its to bait the English clubs, as the European supporters presumably see Ireland as Englands arch enemy.
