    Lent

I read that Lent begins this Wednesday and it got me wondering does anybody give anything up anymore or is it mainly for the older generations now?

I've never done anything for it since I moved to Scotland 12 years ago but reading about it has made me consider things I could potentially give up.

Whether I actually do anything for it is a different matter...

I always find the best course of action is to give up the oul Catholicism that way you don't have to give up any of the important stuff

I always use it to give up a bad habbit. I gave up slouching one year and lie-ins last year.

This year I'm thinking about giving up skipping training.

Been giving up alcohol every year for Lent since 2000, last year was the first year since 2002 I didn't make it the whole way through (had to meet the gf's parents for the first time - there was no way I could do that on lucozade!!) so this year I'm hoping to get back to old habits.

I usually give up the booze too. I've had to make exceptions in the past for Six Nations' celebrations and the odd wedding but I generally last the forty days and forty nights (the nights are of course the worst). No religious motives, just to prove to myself that I can.

I've given up alcohol maybe twice for prolonged periods since i started drinking , and didnt find it too difficult , found giving up caffeine a lot harder.

Gave up Alcohol for 3 months once. Not too hard once you get over your first weekend. Bet no one here could give up s€x or its DIY version (which ever is most appropriate to you) for 40 days and nights!

was this what you did, when you were training for priesthood bohs?

It depends what you mean, every sexual act or just sex?its actually physically impossible for a man to give up everything of that sort for that period of time......

Try having a kid. Too knackered to even think about it in the first couple of months.

It scares me to think what I would start finding attractive if I went that long

Always tradition to give up the gargle. And take a break for Paddy's Day, I may think about doing it this year. I said think...
