eL players sought by English/Scottish clubs

It looks like the success of Kevin Doyle is transitioning so quickly from the eL to Championship/Premiership has shown the English and Scottish club managers that the top eL players are now worth looking at seriously.

Ironically Mick McCarthy is supposed to be looking at Stephen Ward and Kevin Deery! And after the gross under valuation of Doyle they are being valued at 300K each.

And Kenny is supposed to be interested in O'Donovan - who is being valued at 450K.

And Southend supposed to be interested in buying Foran from Scotland!

So is this good as it will bring money into the clubs - or bad because the better players will be leaving the league? Just when the professional structures, summer soccer and success in Europe seemed to be succeeding in raising the overall standards and convincing the casual supporter that the eL might just be worth a look?

it just confirms what people have been saying for ages
the valuation of players is in line with people's past prejudices and blinkers

You'll still get "soccer" writers in the tribune spouting some guff about doyle being the rare diamond in the rough

Motherwell interested in Keegan in Molloy would seem to dispell the ideas of SPL after the best eL players. They both have their strengths but not amoung the eLs best.

Southend (bid rejected), Wolves (trial rejected) & Ipswich (trial rejected) interested in Roy O'Donovan.

Ipswich interested in George O'Callaghan, rumour bid made & rejected.

I doubt any eL players that sold this close season will fetch their true value but if we get better sums than previously will mean more likely to get better bids in the future...

I don't think the average SPL club has the funds for the top eL players.

He's still under contract so he's more than entitled to bleed us dry in the meantime.

Until the end of the season he was doing so by training with the U21's, not sure how one would honour ones contract in the close season.

This trial nonsense is such a crock. Either they want him or they don't - I'd hoped that the days that players from eL went on 'trial' are gone. Buy base don performances or don't.

To answer the original question the money coming in would be a good thing (if a fee is involved and in many cases it isn't). The current crop of players is by no means exceptional (Is Deery better then Osam, O'Donovan better than Morley or O'Flynn etc etc), they're just getting more notice these days. The clubs will continue to get high quality young players and the league will continue to grow. We desperately need investment though so all transfer fees gratefully accepted

I agree that eL clubs need to sell however getting 50-100k for a contracted player is pointless as will not be able to replace on those sums. If someone accepts 300k sterling this year might get 500k for the next best player.

SPL clubs won't pay decent money as they don't sell on players for much. On the other hand 300k for mid table Championship club is small change when best players in that division or sold for 5m plus.

They don't spen 5mill on players in the leagues below them though pete. Of course fees should rise but 300K for a LOI player is a massive amount and no club here would turn down that for anyplayer (and don't believe Ollie re Jason Byrne either)

I think thats a good thing. No clauses this time so club can make informed decision in whats best for us.

And at least Sunderland and Wigan have plenty of money, so room for negotiation
