Thumbs up Salthill Devon clinch U-21 League Title

    Who? I hear you ask.

Salthill claim under-21 league title (from http://www.irishfootballonline.com/n...hp?newsid=5793)

Salthill Devon raised their first eircom under-21 League title on Wednesday night after defeating Cork City 2-1 in the final at Terryland Park, Galway. The County Galway club were the first club with no senior side in the eircom League to appear in the under-21 final but Salthill have now collected the Dr. Tony O'Neill Cup, denying Cork a clean sweep at under-21 level this year.

On top for much of the first half Devon failed to make the breakthrough until almost the hour mark. Michael Gilmore fired home from inside the box to put Salthill ahead.

On 63 minutes though, Cork levelled through Bryan McCarthy but a chaotic nine minutes saw Salthill regain the lead thanks to a 66th minute goal from Cian McBrien.

Salthill held strong in the closing minutes as Cork tried to force the game into extra time and emerged victorious.

I may be wrong but didn't Mervue Utd qualify for the final a couple of years back. I think they were beaten by Longford in Flancare if memory serves me.

Mervue were in the final of the Enda McGill Cup which is the cup competition while Devon won the Tony O'Neill Cup which is the league championship - fair play to them

you are only a loser when you stop trying. Playing sport does not build character, it reveals it.

3 of them did, Sean Murphy, Breen Geraghty and Seamie Rabbitte. Bar Quirke then, the rest would be mainly under 19 still. The lad who scored the winner just turned 17.

    John O'Connor is John O'Connor

He must be thinking of Vinny O'Flaherty
If you're in the penalty area and don't know what to do with the ball, put it in the net and we'll discuss the options later
