    Some Good News

    Garvan steps up Ipswich recovery

    November 16, 2006

Republic of Ireland youth international midfielder Owen Garvan took another step towards a return to first-team action with Ipswich Town with a 90-minute run-out for the Tractor Boys’ reserves on Wednesday night.

Garvan, who turns 19 in January, was a real star in the making last season, starting 29 Coca-Cola Championship games for the Portman Road side.

However, he has failed to make a single appearance this time around after being laid low by post-viral fatigue brought on by a bout of shingles.

He returned with brief reserve team outings over the past fortnight but stepped up on that with a full 90-minute appearance for the club’s second string in Wednesday evening’s 1-0 win over Northampton Town.

The young Dubliner is expected to be included in Jim Magilton’s squad for Sunday’s East Anglian derby against Norwich City.

He could be joined in the squad for that game by Billy Clarke. The Cork youngster missed the recent games against Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday with a knee injury, but has made progress this week.

Ipswich physio Dave Williams said: “Billy’s rehab is coming along and he is twisting and turning now. Hopefully he will be back in training on Friday and that will give him a chance of being available for the Norwich match.”

Great news. Would like to see him have another 12 months at Ipswich before moving to someone like Man City. Hopefully this isnt Liam Miller 2

Garvan is the real deal. Smashing footballer, not the quickest though.

Yeah great news. At only 19 he has plenty of time on his side. Hopefully he can break into the U-21 team once he gets his fitness back. Then hopefully the full team sometime during the next campaign.

Praying he gets back to his best. Apparently the "New Gerrard" tag is justified, and there's a good reason why Premiership clubs were hot on his heels before he was struck down with the illness. Lee Carsley should just be keeping the place warm until Garvan's breakthrough...

I like Joey O'Brien as a midfielder also. Think he's a great talent but is not utilised fully at right back. Clarke and Supple are also great talents.

The future's bright. The future's green.

Really liking the look of Clarke. Think he's gonna be fantastic, seems like a bit of a character. Did he turn down a move to Everton or what was the story there? Fair play to Ipswich for realising where the real talent lies!

Heard Mick McCarthy is dead set on bringing Andy Keogh to Wolves. I'd say that would be a good move, maybe a good stepping stone? Dont think They have any strikers really, so he should be a starter if he goes. Any story with Adam Rooney these days?

He wants both S****horpe strikers, but with Laws taking over at Wednesday, it's possible either of those clubs could take him on.

Garvan is supposed to be starting his first game of the season tonight. Hopefully Billy Clarke recovers from his injury and also plays a part.

Yeah I love that one. He'll be long since sacked by then but at least he can come out with that old peach of 'I layed the foundations.' when a new manager comes in and starts doing well.
