    BBC2.

Were RTÉ just not interested or did Derry want to reach the largest audience?

According to Station Manager at Radio Foyle yesterday, Derry preferred BBC because it guaranteed everyone in North West could see it as some places cannot get RTE reception.

Also BBC guaranteed a free satellite linkup to Millenium Forum where 1,000 tickets are almost sold to watch game there at £5 per ticket - every penny going to Children's Hospice.

BBC deserve it as they (and UTV) have given considerable exposure to the previous rounds with highlights, goals, interviews etc.

    RTE on the other hand.............

BBC takes its public service remit seriously. RTE does not.

Of course the other factor is that the French channel showing it would have need outside broadcast units and it's cheaper to get BBC or RTE to do that than bring everything from France. Therefore they probably got a better rate from BBC as well.

The Brandywell game is next week I think, the 14th.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

Believe me, they don't. Just check out their coverage of Irish league football to see that.

In fairness David, the EL can only aspire to a 5pm Saturday goals and highlights show like BBC NI show (I know they don't do many live games bar the Cup final).

We have to wait until the middle of Monday night for a Waynes World-esque broadcast with dodgy editing, poor or non-existant footage and presenters so wooden they make Jackie Fullerton sound good.

I honestly believe most IL fans would sacrifice the 5 or 10 minutes that we get on a Saturday for a late night Monday highlights programme. Remember at 5pm we are on our way home from games.

    Waynes world!

BBC have been and will always be light years ahead of any station down here for showing local league coverage.

Yeah when I emailed the geezer from Setanta he told me there was a great chance that the away leg would be shown - they have the rights to a couple of UEFA teams home games - e.g Red Star, PSG...
