Imagine the headlines, Kelly bombs for Derry.
The 'legendary' David Kelly will be jetting into Cork on Sunday...it'll be interesting to see if he's worth the reputed £2000 a week(according to other MB's).
It a disgrace he just flies in for Games and doesent live or train with his teammates so i hope he bombs as the likes of him make the league a joke.

Ha ha i hadnt noticed that one! seriously though, Shels had the sense to turn him down cause of the nature of the deal, so as far as i'm concearned he is a waster( he'll get a hattrick now knowing my luck)Originally posted by Ali-G

Surely he can't be getting £2k a week. I have to say i'm very sceptical of that, I can't see any EL side paying that kind of money for someone like him. Maybe he'll do well for Derry, but i think its a step in the wrong direction, they (along with all other EL clubs) should be looking at bringing younger Irish players back from england as well as developing local talent. It may sound insensitive, but hopefully the ITV deal collapse in england will be a good thing for here, leading to more players coming back home and less going over there in the first place.
according to some he is now the highest paid player in the league....and Crowe gets 1,500 yo-yos a week so he must be getting more than that...shocking if its true
I saw somewhere he was only getting 500 sterling a week.
I think Derry have been desparate for a striker for a few years now which lead them to try David Kelly. I think they've also admitted its a break from the recent policy of bringing youth through.
I can't see Napier & Cronin fearing the aging partnership of Coyle & Kelly anyway
£2000 a week?
No way. Derry simply cannot afford that, I'd say. They barely survived a while back, and they have not significantly improved their gates or revenue. Anyway, Kelly was always a bit of a waster and I think Carey, Napier, Cronin and Horgan will be a little too solid for him. We do need to beat Derry though, so a 1 - 0 will do just fine.
agreed. city did well to bring back some young guys this summer and it's definitely the way to go.Originally posted by MikeW

As a Derry fan I can confirm categorically that he is NOT ON £2K a week!!!!!
He isn't even the highest earner in the side- which is quite worrying as you begin to wonder who the hell is
I agree that it is a backward step but our strikerate is that bad I think we are prepared to try anything
I like to think that we learned our lesson with Liam O'Brien. I think we were paying him about £800 a week and all he did was get in the way.
Hopefully David Kelly will do just as bad for Derry especially tomorrow!
Well whatever they are paying him, on yesterday's evidence it is a waste of money. He did f*ckall for the entire game and was just woeful. I heard his few words on the Big Red Bench yesterday, and while I know nothing about the guy, it sounded to me like he doesn't give a sh*t....There must be a load of young Irish players who have been released during the summer, who would be much better signings than Kelly. I know it's tough to judge a guy on one game, but he's past it, if indeed he ever had it !...
Thats a bit harsh OddBoy, he didnt even get the ball!
If Derry had that sort of money for a player, couldnt they have bought that McHugh guy from Harps or the likes of Byrne (Robbie Keane's cousin) from Bray? They would have got a young player for a few years who would do a better job in the long term than Kelly.
As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.
Too true Troy. The service to Kelly was crap. And when he did get the ball our lot just clattered into him.If he made a sucessful pass he was clattered after.I can't see him last long if he gets that treatment every week. And sure jaysus didn't the lad score against Engerland at the cross and to start the riots in landsdowne Rd

And here's me thinking that it was the English crowd that started all that fighting Atleast the Gardai stopped it quickly and effectivlyOriginally posted by wiseman

Overall City did well against Derry. Kelly didn't get much because Gareth was on him all day. Talking to a Derry fan who said they were v impressed with City.
