Has Niall Quinn set a new record?

Has Niall Quinn set a new record? He played 6 Irish internationals against Birmingham - Cunningham, Clarke, Delap, Lawrence, Elliott & Murphy. I can't remember more than 4 in any previous English team sheet.

Clarke conceded a penalty on his debut, nice one son.

Murphy again looked decent enough and Elliott will score if he gets a decent supply.

Back in the day Villa had McGrath, Houghton, Townsend, Staunton - all four who were in our first choice squad. Of the six you listed none of them are in our first team and only Elliott would be in an Ireland 23 man squad, and even then only marginally.

Also Leeds played Kelly, Harte, McPhail and Keane.

Arsenal's FA Cup winning side in 1979 had Jennings, Brady, Rice, Nelson, Stapleton and O'Leary - 3 full ROI and 3 full NI internationals.

Liam Lawrence was in the squad for the Sweden game, wasn't he? What does that make him?

Ronnie Whelan, Ray Houghton, Steve 'Gaffer' Staunton, and John 'Sinatra' Aldridge were first choice with Liverpool in the late 80s.

Now our squad is built around a combination of the Newcastle and Tottenham first team and reserves.

Dont be silly, Elliot walks into the 23 and should be walking into the team soon enough when Kevin Doyle is found out

Any basis for this? he's already got more goals in England than Elliot

I don't think anyone can say whether Doyle is better than Elliott or vice versa. Elliott has scored 18 goals in 44 starts in England. Doyle has scored 19 goals in 43 starts in England. Pretty similar stats at U-21 level too. We'll just have to see who keeps progressing.

Murphy has been capped at youth and U21 level, I didn't use the word senior in my posting. I had thought Lawrence was capped but as he is on the FAI site he is as good as.

If I was a Sunderland fan I'd wonder about Quinn priorities, here are his remarks on Lawrence after playing a pre-season friendly:

"I want Liam to be doing it on the wing for Ireland as well as Sunderland and I really feel that he can kick on and do things for both. He showed signs at Carlisle of what he is capable of and I know all about the ability he has got."

Nice that he remembered Sunderland, btw if Quinn calls Stan, Lawrence will play

As regards the record, not all those players already mentioned played in the team at the same time. The record I always thought was in West Brom's glory days, we had 4 of them playing at the same time against France 1976.
    Mulligan, Martin, Giles and Treacy

West Brom who had Giles (player Manager) Martin. Mulligan and Treacy. all 4 played against Man U when they beat them 4-0. and a large contigent of West brom fans turned up to support Ireland against England in the 1976 friendly at Wembley (1-1).
