    Footballer in critical condition after on-pitch collision

    A 21-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after being seriously injured during a football match in Co Meath last night.
    The man, who plays for Navan Cosmos, was going for a ball when his head collided with another player's knee.

    The accident happened during a game at the Meath and District League grounds on the Trim Road in Navan.

    Last week a sad week in football when a young man loses his life just playing a game he loves.
    My thoughts are at this time with his family and close friends.
    Lets hope they fine strenght to see this thought.

    My thoughts are with his family, friends, relatives. Also the other player involved in this tragic acident, players on both sides and the referee may they one day participate again in the game they love.

    I was witness to a similar incident some years ago (albeit not as serious, the player survived) and it took me two years to play again, I know the referee never refereed again because of the trauma, and the other player never went to a game for over five years. Please God they find the strength to recover.
