Alex Ferguson's "best of British" team post 1975

    In today's Daily Telegraph:

    Shilton,
    Nicol, Adams, Butcher, McGrain
    Giggs Gascoine Robson Beckham
    Rush Rooney

Surprised he has'nt Stuart Pearce and Alan Shearer in there, seeing as he tried to sign both players on several different occasions.........

His reserves are Jennings, Scoles, Lampard, Ferdinand and Shearer.

I always thought Shilton was overrated and was guaranteed a few "uncharacteristic errors" every 2 months or so. Jennings was far superior.

Try reading the title again. "Best of British" ????
Denis Irwin was actually IRISH just in case you forgot

    Anton

And I think the reason he doesn't have Pearce and (especially) Shearer in there is precisely because he tried to sign them.

He tried to sign Butcher, Adams and Gascoigne too though.

Should really be compared to the beautiful game. I'd ask you to edit that post...

Rooney is way ahead of Lineker but leaving out Dalglish is criminal

Looks like he's trying to justify the over-inflated prices he's paid for players over the years. Frankly I wouldn't name Rio Ferdinand in a "best of British 2006 and playing at Man United" team. And Rooney, fine player though he is, can't yet justify a place ahead of Dalglish just yet. If it hadn't been a British team he'd have had Veron in there too
