    Internet Explorer 7

Has anyone tried it yet? Looks to have some usefull features. I use Mozilla Firefox quite a bit but some websites require Internet Explorer and this seems to have a lot of the features I like about Firefox. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...r/default.mspx

I use service pack 1 as it doesn't have the ridiculously annoying and intrusive pop ups which sp21 has.

All IE have been terrible crashing at the first sight of java applets :<

As a gamer, Microsoft have ignored us for years and now want to buy out Steam [c/o Valve] owners of HalfLife .E.A.R etc. Very bad news. Microsoft Media Player is awful also.
And ofc as I use SP1 this pile of rubbish will only install on SP2, yet another way of Microsoft to exude its arrogant monopoly
    j'accuse!

I don't use IE anymore & not come across any websites that required either. I haven't found any reason to leave Firefox - much tidier browser.

What popups? (You should be running SP2, anything previous to that is horrendously insecure. It's like a magnet for Blaster and it's ilk.)

Tabbed browsing, lots of free plugins, bit more secure because it's not part of the OS like IE. I'm not a huge fan meself, more because of the annoying evangelism than anything else, but I am using it atm because IE has decided to go kooky on me for no explicable reason.

Adam, do you have any stats for the browsers used on foot.ie? Just out curiosity, think it might be interesting. I use Opera myself.
Also I read on cnet.com during the week that several security holes have already been found in the IE7 beta, as well as users complaining it won't install with several virus scanners and firewalls, or corrupts them following install

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

I love the way people go around mouthing off about Microsoft products being shíte when they usually haven't a clue what they're talking about. Microsoft make some very decent products and have introduced ease of use to many areas where strong programming skills would normally be required.

I use both IE and Firefox but see little genuine advantages of using Firefox over IE. For me, tabbed browsing is overrated and not enough of a reason to switch. If you use Windows Update, you'll get all the security patches you need and should have problems with IE.

Eh, Peadar, bit defensive there like? Ok, one person was a bit critical, but was that a good enough reason to go off on one like?

You know this isn't the first IE v Firefox thread and it's always the same tripe. People love to be seen to knock Microsoft for whatever reason. I know Microsoft have a lot to answer for, but credit where credit is due, they have some great products now.

Peadar, the only person that directly criticised MS in this thread is ccfcman, who wasn't even able to explain his comment when questioned about it. You need to chill out and stop being so defensive, you're sounding like a right eejit.

I used to get an amazing amount of spyware with IE 6, Changed to Firefox & eliminated all spyware overnight. IE has too many settings that unknowledgeable people can change without knowing what they doing & what loopholes they opening... Firefox seems to restrict access to those settings.

I've never bothered to look at either product too technically but lack of spyware & nice download popup from Firefox sold me.

I also use Thunderbird for email client but jury out on that product.

I didn't think i was on foot.ie so much to be 7% of the traffic.

    I agree.

If any other operating systems or browsers came under as much scrutiny and attacks as the Microsoft ones do then Microsoft really would have no competition.

Had a look at Firefox. I like the RSS feeds but thats about it. The search facility could be handy but I use the google toolbar and that does the job for me. As for Spyware I have Microsoft antispyware and Spybot and have no problems...

because of Microsofts ubiquity most threats are designed specifically to attack their products - using lesser known but just as effective stuff is bound to be more secure in a lot of cases, regardless of whats "better"
