Carlisle United announced today the signing of forward Sean Maguire as their eighth summer acquisition. The 29-year-old Irish international has agreed to a one-year deal with the Blues. Maguire, who has found the net once in 12 appearances for his home country, commenced his professional career with Waterford United in Ireland. His performances caught the attention of West Ham United, who signed him in 2013. During his tenure with the Hammers, he was loaned to Sligo Rovers and Accrington Stanley. Upon leaving West Ham in 2015, Maguire returned to Ireland, joining Dundalk and later Cork City. His remarkable form for Cork City, where he netted 54 goals in 74 games, earned him a return to English football in 2017 with Preston North End. In his debut Championship season, Maguire scored 10 goals in 24 games. The striker has made 170 appearances in all competitions for North End. Maguire signed for Coventry City in January last year and made seven appearances. As he takes up his new role at Carlisle United, the club and fans will be looking forward to the contribution his experience and goal-scoring prowess can bring to the team.
