Crikey - three big enough names there. Is it a confidence it's so soon after the suggestion on the other thread (about Hull) that Dundalk may be going part-time next season?

Facebook and Twitter have referenced a post that Hoban will be sitting on the bench next season if he stays. In other words, they want him gone to lower the wage bill and can go for free. Now I know it is nearly silly season and social media can be as accurate as a crooked arrow but things are not good at Dundalk so there could be some merit to him leaving.

10 league goals and i guess a few penelties in there.
I wouldnt be banging the door down for him at Rovers, not sure he has the legs to do the work Gaffney does.
Still surprising to see a long time servant treated like that (if its true of course)

12 goals so far, but you don't tend to get 20+ scorers these days, so that's a decent enough return IMO.
Gaffney is a better player though, yes.

Depends what you’re looking for it a striker depending on your team really, Hoban is undoubtedly the better goalscorer, Gaffney has a better strike from distance, is better in the air and is definitely more mobile and hard working off the ball, while both are good at holding up the ball with their back to goal.

Hoban has a really poor record in Europe too, which you'd imagine would be a focus for Rovers.

It'll be 5 in a row for Rovers if Dickie is the caliber of player Derry are looking to sign. Lovely fella, has ability but shows it once every 10 games or so.

Id take him at Pats purely to stop him scoring every time he plays against them. Scored in 3 separate games this year and 2 last year. Always a cert to score against pats it’s a mad record he has

If they sign enough of them they might be in a situation to have 2 of them available at the same time! Granted that might eat up a significant portion of their budget and lead to holes elsewhere on the team but I believe that is a risk they should take.

Rovers have two wingbacks in Farrugia and Clarke that when they are fit they are unbelievably effective but they are injured a lot (or recovering) its gas that they are 23 and 35 (i think) but the most consistant WB we have is the 35 year old Ronan Finn.
Not giving out about the lads id have them boith 100% but Derry already have a lot of injury prone players , Fats, Duffy, Whelan and thats just the first 3 that occur to me

Feel bad for Hoban because he has given his all for Dundalk. He will have no shortage of offers.

Bit unusual to be arranging next year's squad while Europe is still up for grabs, no? That'll impact the budget hugely, you'd have thought

Derry have already spoken to both Kelly and Hoban… both of them fall into the category of players I would take but wouldn’t necessarily excite me… Hoban for his mentality/character alone we could probably do with. As an all round centre forward Gaffney miles better… the perfect testing ground for this was England, if Hoban hadn’t have came back would have been National League level at best (and probably worse) whereas Gaffney had credible success in the football league.
