The draw for round three of the Carlsberg FAI Cup was held in the Guinness Storehouse last evening and County were dealt a tough draw as they must travel to The Brandywell to take on Derry City in a repeat of last year’s quarterfinal.

Following their defeat of Bohemians at Dalymount in the third round last season the side managed by Eric Hannigan traveled north for the quarters and after a gallant display they conceded at the death when Derry avoided a trip to Station Road for a replay when they broke Kildare hearts with an 89th.minute winner. The candystripes, who have never won the cup, went on to loose out on a 2-1 scoreline to Waterford United I the semis

The tie will take place week ending 28th August (most likely on the Friday). Speaking after the draw manager John Ryan was philosophical about taking on the side that is currently in third spot in the premier division. “We will go to Derry and give it our best shot” said the manager. “We have a young side and they respect all sides, without fearing any” he continued. Ryan added “the lads have proved recently that they can rise to the occasion when required, as they did in our league cup tie against Shelbourne last week and if we can repeat that form we are in with a shout”
