Oily Byrne on Sky Sports News

Olly was interviewed five minutes ago by Sky Sports ahead of the European Draws in Nyon. The draws are at 11am.

He said they'd like to get Liverpool in the 2nd round if they got there, and that they would probably use Lansdowne Road, or maybe Croker!!
He said that injuries were the main reason Shels aren't doing so well this season.

Sky Sports also had a mini piece with some Glentoran guy in Belfast, who said that its good to have big teams in the early stages because it brings attention to clubs that otherwise get forgotten. He said it brings some of the magic back tot he competition.

I don't agree with Olie on this one,Liverpool shouldn't be even in the compitition and i do not want to draw them.

I really really want to avoid Liverpool, unless they get really a lot of injuries and we win the first leg in Anfield hehe. Otherwise, it would potentially mean the end of europe if we progressed to the second round (if we do) and well, I would hope to get another victory in the second round. Its all premature but if we did win the first round games, then I wanna go on to the third, with a draw against teh easiest second round team.

Damn straight. It's better for the team to get further in the compo than a pay day and being knocked out iin QR2!

i want the same run as last year !!! it was brilliant... if we beat the team for the UEFA cup group stages then i would be jumping over the moon.

however realistically, putting my logical hat on. I think we will get through the first round and meet a tough team in the second round a go out.

He did. He didn't say "Croke Park", but he said something like "our close neighbours" ... "having changed the rules" or something like that. It was definately meant to imply Croke Park. The Sky Sports News guy hadn't a clue what he was on about.

The same fate should await Shels, regardless, if they get Steaua, so you may aswell go out to the holders with heads held high as opposed to going out with a whimper to the best Romania has to offer.

was he drunk when they interviewed him, or does he normally slur with his eyes closed?

He's just incapable of stringing a few words together coherently. And to bring up about the marching season in front of the cameras made me cringe. Someone needs to have another word with him. Roddy and a few heavies wouldn't go astray

Saw him just now being interviewed after the draw. I nearly got sick seeing his face on TV. And how did he not know that Shels and Liverpool couldn't meet anyway as they were both seeded!! Duh!

The only time I've seen Byrne speak was when he took the opportunity of Shels' 2nd successive title victory live on TV to attack Bohs over leaving out Shels' new recruits. He came across as slurred, sloppy, incoherent and fairly thick.

Didnt Steaua win the trophy in 86, And knocked Valencia out of the Uefa cup last year? In all fairness what Romania has to offer is quite good.

Back under Ceausescu though when the best players were forced to stay in Romania. Still a remarkable achievement though.
