    not playing in Richmond Park

    from Carmarthens website:

    UEFA CUP DRAW

In the UEFA Cup draw made today in Nyon Switzerland this afternoon Town has been drawn against Longford of the Eircom League.

Mark Jones the Richmond Park boss is absolutely delighted with the draw. "It’s just great, we couldn’t have wished for a better draw. The travelling is manageable as its always difficult to travel long distances against unknown opposition.

Like us Longford are a semi professional side and are currently in mid table and that will give us a very realistic chance of making it through to the second round.

The ties, which will be played on the 14th. and 28th. July, will see Town travel away for the first leg with Newtown’s Latham Park the likely venue for the home leg as Richmond Park is currently not up to UEFA requirements

With the Welsh Premier League being pushed towards summer football and the Eircom League being held up as a successful example of the switch it will give the Richmond Park outfit the perfect opportunity to measure up to Eircom opposition

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Looks like we wont be playing at Richmond Park afterall Anyone have a clue how far this other place is from Carmarthen?

If thats the case it would be better to get the ferry from dul laoghaire to holyhead rather than from rosslare to fishguard. Its 100 miles from fishguard to newtown and 111 from holyhead to newtown, but dublin is more accessable from longford than rosslare
    we are going up

I reckon Carmarthen v Longford will be a close game, as I think both clubs are semi-pro (Carmarthen certainly are).
They were nearly relegated the season before last but improved vastly last season and have a good manager in Mark Jones and coach in Mark Aizlewood (ex Wales and Leeds).
Their only problem was scoring goals last season, otherwise they would have finished higher than they did.
Plenty of info on this site about Carmarthen if you click the relevant link.
The tie will be played at Latham Park, Newtown - a long way from Carmarthen!
You might even be better coming in via Liverpool, but its six of one and half a dozen of the other as far as travel is concerned.

This was taken from a welsh forum in response to a longford fan asking about caermerton...!!!

Cool $Leon$ and Dillo set to make welsh trip!

Great draw for the red and black! Expect us to progress- no excuses. Carmarthen surely won't possess the same quality as previous opposition, Liteks Lovech and FC Vaduz. $Leon$ wants to take his car over and go on a road trip. Wales by all accouonts is very scenic. Are we best going from Rossclare to Fishguard or going from Dublin to Holyhead? Can anybody inform me?

Would be handy to know, as obviously different ferry if it's to be Newtown. Why would they go to Swansea? How many are they expecting to travel...

Hoping to avoid irish ferries tbh, given the way their work practices try to crush workers rights/ wage agreements/ hire people at slave wages....
