Rovers aim to stretch unbeaten run from www.sligoweekender.ie

Sligo Rovers’ six-game unbeaten spell will be challenged by a club with their own unbeaten record of four games, Monaghan United, this Saturday in the Showgrounds (kick-off 7.30pm).
Monaghan have one win to their credit, but four draws mean they lie mid-table, five points adrift of Sligo Rovers and Cobh Ramblers. Despite the gap they will not be underestimated when they visit the Showgrounds.
“I think you’ve got to give Monaghan the respect they deserve,” said Rovers boss Sean Connor. “They’ve been unbeaten in their last four games. They’re a big physical team.”
“If we’re not on our game they’re going to cause us problems, but if we can dominate the pace like we have done previously then we can win.”
“Monaghan are going to come down here and do what Limerick did, get men behind the ball and try to hold us off.”
Connor had two injury headaches to contend with in Cork last weekend. Liam Burns and Conor O’Grady were unavailable, although the former will almost certainly be a part of the squad for Saturday night’s encounter.
If Conor O’Grady’s continuing groin injury rules him out of contention, Steve Feeney is once more likely to be drafted into midfield.
Connor may also have the returning Stephen O’Donnell available to him. “Stephen will be back in training on Tuesday [today],” said Connor. “We’ll assess his fitness. I’d love to get him involved as soon as possible because of his pace and his strength.”
“He would be a nice option to have at the weekend, but whether that game is too soon is something we’ll have to see.”
Liam Burns’ return means Gerry Carr is unlikely to start on Saturday, even if he recovers from a knock to the ankle he sustained during the Cobh game.
