Now that the record for season tickets sold has been broken i wonder will we hear anything about Kennys contract?

Is that fact? Not messing... but have season tickets sales records been broken?

According to the FAI it’s a new record anyway: https://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/fai-...tic_FLINhj3PGY

How long have we been selling season tickets for though? Back when we were good it used to be that you had to buy for every game to keep your seat for the following one, but there were no season tickets as such. So it's probably not as big a deal as it sounds.

Its a record since we started selling season tickets. Thats how records work.

And funnily enought rumours of the new contract seem to be out.

    Intelligent analysis.

That's... not the question that was asked though.

The previous record was 16,500 in 2018/19 (per the FAI).

From googling online, I think they were launched in 2011, after the infamous corporate ticket fiasco. And then the FAI set match ticket prices such that it was cheaper to buy individual tickets... See https://m.independent.ie/irish-news/...-26731086.html

So not that long (you can rule out two years due to covid too) - but we've had two Euro qualifications in that time, so to top those ticket sales when we're about as bad as we've ever been does mean something I think

So it is a record since we started selling season tickets then?

    It is.

But if we started selling season tickets in 2022, it would be a silly record.

And if we started selling season tickets in 1972, it'd be a more impressive feat.

I'm not sure why the silly response to what's a reasonable question.

This is the oldest your mom has been since records began. Not all records are important. Snarking at people looking for context to judge the importance of this one just makes you look like an eejit.

Ok at least we can all agree its a record, that seems settled.

Why it annoys people is another question i guess.

The only thing that's annoying people is utterly unhelpful answers to perfectly valid questions. Should be fairly clear why that's annoying.

That original "block booking" system was in place since immediately after Italia 90 I think. Even then the number of tickets sold which guaranteed you tickets in future were lower than this number. They're somewhat comparable I'd say.

There's definitely something happening in domestic football though. LOI attendances and ST sales high, MNT ST sales high, WNT getting good crowds. Are the Irish getting turned off by petro-countries buying football?

I still think it's a bit premature, unless there's a get-out clause for the FAI after the Nations League if things go badly. Still, at least the papers will shut up about it.

Shame they couldn’t have wrapped it up sooner. If they had it all sorted in November, Barry might be still there

I've no issue with it to be honest - the games in June will be over in three months, and that's not much of a contract to offer
It's a show of faith on the FAI's part for the improved performances at the end of 2021 as well
All goals, yellow and red cards tweeted in real time on mastodon, BlueSky and facebook
