    Other Group matches

What do you think will be the out come of the rest of our group matches this week?
    26-Mar-2005 PARIS/SAINT-DENIS (France) France - Switzerland 21:00
30-Mar-2005 TEL AVIV (Israel) Israel - France 20:50
    30-Mar-2005 ZURICH (Switzerland) Switzerland - Cyprus 20:30
I'd say France, Draw, Switzerland... and us beating Isreal

This is gonna be a really tough game for us. If we win it would be a really excellent result. Israel are doing very well and have two vital home games v Ireland and v France this week. So they have plenty to play for

Ya It'll be tough but I have a feeling we'll win, if we do it'll set us up nicely for the rest of the matches.. just hope we don't do a 'rugby on it'

If we beat Israel on Saturday, I fancy the Israelis getting a result off the French, lets not forget - they are playing for qualification also. The French game could be a 'must-win' game for them.
    Resign, now!

The question is do we want a winner in the France - Switzerland game? I think a draw suits us the best, expecially coupled with a win in Israel would put us clear at the top, with both teams still to come to Dublin

But do you not think that if, say, France win, it will knock the Swiss back big time, better for us to be challenging with 1 team than 3 or 4

I honestly think that we should look to win the group.

Best case scenario, if my calculations are right, is that France & Swiss draw twice. Next best is a win for each of them. Worst case, assuming the French are our most serious threat to first place, is 6 points for France. The max that we can get off the Swiss is 4 so that gives them a potential 2 point advantage over us if they beat Swiss twice.

Two draws in the FRA vs SWISS games would allow us to draw in Israel, and draw at home to both FRA & SWISS AND we can still finish joint top! Put another way, a draw in both those games means we only need to win one of Isreal away and FRA & SWISS at home (assuming we beat Israel at home, FAR & CYP away) to win the group.

If the top of the table looked like this on Thursday morning I'll be very happy:

    Code:
      Team MP	W	D	L	Pts
     Ireland 5	3	2 0 11
     Israel 6	3	2 1 11
     France 6	2	3 1 9
     Switzerland 5	2	3 0	9

I reckon France and Switzerland will draw and Israel and Ireland will draw.

Israel to lose to Ireland and draw with France. Our next match is home to Israel, so if they're out of the running by then, that'll be a big advantage to us. If they take a point off us and beat the French (or the other way around!), they're going to be very fired up coming to Lansdowne.
