    eL Transfer Fees

€10,000 for Stephen O'Flynn got me thinking.
How expensive is this in the run of things? You'd rarely hear eL fees being banded about the place.
Can someone tell me the value of a couple of recent transfers.
Were Crowe, Ryan etc, out of contract?
City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.

    G.O'Mahoney Trapattoni'll sort ém out!!

They were all out of contract alright. To be honest €10k for Stephen O'Flynn seems high to me, considering we got Andy Myler and Danny O'Connor for €8k combined, both proven Premier Division players.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Yeah they cost nothing apart from their wages/singing on fees.

We got E15k for Pat Sullivan and are owed E20k for Alan Cawley. Derry paid E22k for Adrian Murphy. So it seems the thing not to do is let the fee be decided by that UEFA formula, or you'll end up paying more. Those fees were also far lower than what was calculated by the UEFA yokey too.

Most transfers are frees though, I would imagine - most clubs seem to give one-year contracts almost exclusively.

That seems to be changing though, as the age base goes down and the quality goes up. Also signing fee's have to be taken into account - free transfers not really true (and probably another reason for longer contracts).

Would have made a lot more sense to sign him on loan and then sign him permanantly when his contract is up. I'm not complaining though. Good business for CCFC.

He's a good bit younger than 23 though isn't he, they'd still have to pay unless they waited 'til he's 23.

I was fairly sure that Steven O'Flynn was 23. Maybe a Cork head can confirm or deny?

21 according to here, although I don't know if that's up-to-date, still older than I thought though.

I know that he's younger than I am (24 next week) but not by much. His year of birth is defo 1981 or 1982.

Jason Byrne cost €75,000 from Bray to Shels, which is the record for a transfer.

Between two eL clubs, I presume? Was it £100,000 Carlisle paid for Darren Kelly from Derry?

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

As far as I remember, before Pinocchio went to Shels, the record fee for a transfer within the eL was the £35,000 Bohs paid us for Molloy. The way things are now, with most clubs being on their financial uppers, there's not many can afford to pay approx €20k which I'd guess would be the minimum for a very good, proven, player - which is why most of the big name moves nowadays seem to involve out-of-contract players.

As regards transfers to the UK, Wimbledon paid us £100,000 for Dessie Byrne a few years back (the first time he was with us). I think Rovers got a fair wad for Noel Hunt too, but one of the Hoops on here should be able to confirm that.

Forgot about Hunt - was it £250,000 Dunfermline paid?

We got £30,000 for Joe Hanrahan to Manchester United back in '85 - that's worth at least E150k in today's money, I'd say.
