Obviously u dont see a lot of games with that sort of comment about rathkeale and abbey. Id say their evenly matched tbh
A very good weekend for Rathkeale in the League; hard earned 6 points for them.
If i were to choose between the 2 (Rathkeale or Abbeyfeale) i'd have to stick with Abbey though, just think they're a better team.
I see Glin & Granagh was abandoned due to injury; hope it wasn't anything too serious...

Congrats to ferry on winning cup..it's a lovely cup to win sponsored by a great family..was in broadford last nite(missed first 25 mins)so can not really comment on that.. decent game of ball from what looked like 2 understrenght teams.,with every ball fought for so no one can accuse broadford of rolling over after there disappointing season..they finished first half v strong but Abbey had glorious chance from corner but hit cross bar from free header.. 2nd half Abbey were dominant team and deservedly went ahead but broadford equalised quickly after good build up play and great finish from young winger, though it was marginally off side but difficult call by ref who was a good bit back.. then came a big turning point in game when ref produced a 2nd yellow to Abbey midfielder for a noting challenge which happened in front of dressing rooms where I was situated..ref was close to this also so don't know where he got 2nd yellow from, looked like he didn't realise he was previously booked so had no option then but to follow through with red.. prob fair result in end but great credit to broadford for giving noting away soft..
Good to see there was a press night for the Hogan Cup Final as well, hopefully this will be an annual event and would be good if it was done for the Reidy Cup Final as well. Clubs that get to these finals generally wouldn't be in the spotlight much so anything to raise the profile of these clubs and the finals is welcome.
Rathkeale have won their last 2 games 7-0 (v Athea) & 8-0 (v Granagh)... Jesus... I know Granagh had hurling Sunday; still though, Broadford drawing with Abbey too on top of that, all going well for them! (Still fancy Abbey though )
2 good points for Carrig v Broadford & Rovers over their last few games, still tight at the bottom though; going by recent results Athea looked goosed not sure of the other out of Carrig, Granagh & Shannonside to go down.
Out of interest does anyone know what the story with promotion/ relegation from/ to the Premier will be like when the 2 Newcastle West teams join next season (NCW AFC will almost certainly finish at least second) will it be 3rd from Division one promoted or only one team from the Premier to be relegated?
I know a few seasons ago something similar happened but I can't remember how it finished up!
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YA BEAUTY! What a hit son... what a hit!
Rathkeale B won Div 1 and could not get promoted. It was presumed 2nd and 3rd (Glin) would go up. But Carrig who finished 2nd last in premier argued it should be a playoff between themselves and Glin. The league decided it should be a playoff and Glin refused to play and Carrig stayed up. I remember the agm getting a bit heated that year. That’s my memory of how it went anyway
What about when shannonside was formed? How did shanagolden and foynes go with who went up or who went down that time
Big game again Friday nite in clounreask..u would fancy ratkeale after hammering rovers earlier in season.. have rovers ever won a major trophy??.. I think it will be easy path to final for ratkeale, I see the other semi final was totally one sided which is a pity, let's hope that this wknd is not the same score or something similar...
I was at the game Sunday. AK goalie was carried off after about 15 minutes so their centre forward went in. The first half was by no means a walk in the park but Abbeyfeale were always going to win. Both teams missed big chances but Abbeyfeale scored with the last kick of the half to go in 2 nil. AK never really came out second half.
Abbeyfeale were very impressive and will be hard to beat but i do think 7 nil was a bit harsh on them.
I fancy Rathkeale also but i dont think it'll be as easy as you might think. NCW Rovers were missing loads the last time they met and didn't even have subs.
Rathkeale v Abbeyfeale makes for a good final
I think that shanagolden were div 1 and foynes get relegated to div 1 in their last year so shannonside just started from there really!
Looks like the 'dream' final between ratkeale and Abbey is on after last night's semi final.. I was one who thought rovers would be well beat but I was v wrong.. it was a game rovers shud have won and will def feel aggrieved by poor decisions by officals on the night..rovers played the better football and is one ratkeale got away with.. looking forward to decent final between two normally good footballing sides..on a separate note, this is my 5th Desmond league game going watching this season and in 3 of them the officials had poor games and got big decisions wrong on the day..I know it's difficult job as you are normally on your own with players mouthing at u but when 3/4 officials on duty no excuse for error in my opinion..
I wouldn't say should have won, but they could have won it.
Rovers missed their penalties rather than Rathkeale saving them and I reckon if they had kept their shots on target then they'd have won it as Kevin Mee would've saved (and did save) more than Carmody.
Rovers are a young footballing side but Rathkeale have experience and that won out in the finish.
Would agree with both of ye. Rovers will feel they left it behind them alright, lack of experience probably cost them on the night. On the officals i felt the 2nd yellow for rovers player was harsh and at a vital time as they were getting on top in midfield. Ref did make a big call overruling his linesman for Rovers 2nd goal but according to people i spoke to with a better view he got it spot on .
Wasnt it even more convoluted with a complication of Glin and Kildimo ending up with the same points on the last day - with no distinct 2nd place I thought the league was trying to make it a 3 way playoff between those 2 and CarrigI thought both Glin and Kildimo refused to play and in the end that both went up
