Four goals from Danny Furlong helped North End ease into the next round of the FAI Junior against a game Parkville of Tullow in Hollygrove this morning. Parkville started well and after an even enough quarter of an hour, Parkville went ahead when they created a four-on-two break where the ball was pulled back to leave the Parkville forward drill it into the top corner for 1-0 to the away side. North End then pushed hard for an equaliser with Danny Furlong going close on two occasions before Parkville had a one-on-one with the North End keeper but the latter was able to save. With five minutes to go in the half, Danny did get the equaliser for North End as the ball was squared to him inside the Parkville area. 1-1 at half-time.
With John Lester pulling the strings in midfield for North End, the home side dominated possession for much of the second half as Parkville drifted out of the game. Danny Furlong latched onto a back back-pass to make it 2-1 and then Kyle Dempsey set up Danny again to make it Danny’s hat-trick and 3-1 to North End. Parkville then hit the North End post with a header before Shane Dempsey hit the top corner of the Parkville goal from outside the area to make it 4-1. A tap-in at the far post for Danny Furlong for his fourth and North End’s fifth made it 5-1 at the finish.
North End defeated Coill Dubh by six goals to nil in this competition yesterday to progress to the next round.
