Oh i can be bitter :)

As a limerick fan i was annoyed with many things about our no show the other night but one thing that really peeved me was the ref Paul McLoughlin. Not at his performance but the fact he was from Monaghan. Nothing against monaghan ppl either but when i think of it monaghan to limerick and back is 500 Kms. Thats 500 by 78c per km as per their entitelment is €390 plus match fee and meals makes him taking home a handy pay pack for a few hours of standing around and not taking corntrol of a game. just thought id mention thats all Paul as you drove home with nearly a grand in ur phoca the other night

It's mad to think that in the first division the referees are making considerably more than most of the players. The cost of them is insane. And that's before we even start talking about the standard.

Can I have a dig at the refs here too....Tom Connolly is terrible, seriously has a huge problem with Dundalk!

No he doesn't. None of the refs are biased.

You can question the standard but only the losers ever moan

I would agree that it's more likely to be incompetance rather then bias. But the yellow card stats in relation for Connolly raises the possibility of bias against certain players.

This infers that supporters never comment / moan about referee standards when their team wins. Clearly not so.

You have to pay refs well; even overpay them. Underpaid officials take backhanders.

Could still do that while being overpaid.

Yeah, I know but the likelihood is much less if you pay them well.

By the way, @gael 353, why do you think that ref was poor the other night? I thought the penalty call was spot on, as was the sending off.

It's certainly more prevalent among losing supporters though.

Thought the penalty was dodgy as I genuinely thought McCarthy poked away the ball in the tackle then took down Hughes. I thought the ref should have dealt with Mathews earlier than he did and what happened with Frost would have been avoided. Other than that he did alright.

I don't think any ref goes out intentionally to screw any team. Sometimes you get the decisions and sometimes you don't. Even a poor standard ref isn't intentionally screwing a team no matter how much we want to think so. Even the top teams think the top refs are screwing them in games when they are losing.

No, it was a penalty. Check it out here again: http://vimeo.com/25302852

As for Frosty, maybe less clear cut. His haircut does him no favours!

Still think its dodgy. Don't forget McCarthy is really lanky. He does lunge in and is asking for a penalty to be given against him but the ball goes from in front of Hughes to off out to the side when McCarthy gets his toe on it. Regardless if Hughes wasn't taken down I would have fully expected him to stick it from where he was so whether it be a penalty or not Shels would most likely have gone two up.

even that doesnt show it was a peno, i was with the sober shels supporters behind the goal and mccarthy got the ball, Philly did his usual dive (rem he did 11 last year) and O'Loughlin fell for it. My point though is the cost of that ref comming from Monaghan to ref a game in limerick. I rem complaining when i saw stewart templeman from Tralee getting a monaghan game too last year

I was sober and in front of the train platform. Come on, that was clearly a peno. He lost Philly Hughes and leapt like a triple jumper behind and from the side and Hughes went down like a pie-devouring number nine..(wait a minute...). Never a dive. Don't remember Div 1 last year.
1000 quid a week puts the ref on the same wage as a Guard or a teacher with 10 years' experience.

Thought this was going to be a story about a young man's gradual transformation into a Sligo Rovers fan.

    Knockalisheen of a Tuesday:

Seriously we have so much money it's disgusting, we were going to offer Denis twice what he shook hands on if he stuck it out, cost himself two grand a week just by being a too eager beaver. There's loads of talk around town that we're going to sign Graham Cummins, buy two hammers (from a dear hardware shop, not a chain natch) and break both his legs, just because we can. Also we're buying Tommy Dunnes house, knocking it, burning the rubble and then buying the contents of Coolmore Stud and lining them all up to pi$$ on the ashes.
