    SFAI Age re-alignment

Age groups for schoolboy football are changing from next season to bring us into line with the rest of Europe. Ages will now be calculated from January of the second year of the season instead of January in the first. So say a kid born in 2002 would be playing u8 in 2010-11. However, in 2011-12 that kid will be playing under 10's. Of course, everyone changes so everyone's in the same boat.

    From SFAI website:

    Age Re-alignment

Kennedy Cup 2011 - Players are eligible born on or after 1st January 1997

Kennedy Cup 2012 - Players are eligible born on or after 1st January 1998

SFAI Cups will retain their individual names and players will be eligible in 2011-12 as per the following table:

Menton-Seery Cup – Players born on or after 1st January 2001

Norton Cup – Players born on or after 1st January 2000

Troy Cup – Players born on or after 1st January 1999

Goodson Cup – Players born on or after 1st January 1998

Evans Cup - Players born on or after 1st January 1997

Barry Cup - Players born on or after 1st January1996

4 Inter-League competitions will retain their trophy titles and players will be eligible in 2011-12 as per the following table:

Cashin Cup – Players born on or after 1st January 2000

EuroTab Cup – Players born on or after 1st January 1999

John Farrell Cup – Players born on or after 1st January 1997

Paul O’Neill Cup - Players born on or after 1st January 1996

All SFAI competitions will be run as 11-a-side.

I think the big problem with this is that this year's u9's (born 2001) will be u11's next season and unless Leagues change their rules those little kids will be on a full size pitch which would be a hugely retrograde step IMO.

Perfectly good proposal, let's see what the various Leagues do though...

age group most effected will be u9s, as they will now move direct to u11, which in wicklow is 11-a side, full size pitch/goals and all the paraphanelia that comes with that. I hope the league have sense and move the 11-a side to start at u12/u13, as these lads are far to small to play 11-a side, and it would run their football education..

It seems to be started by Dublin clubs, but my biggest beef with new proposel is now you will have players playing u11 which are really u10 playing full pitch soccer.......absolutely crazzzzy!!!

This has gone fairly well. Has been a bit of a head ache with registration etc with the age chance, it was all very rushed, but the dust has cleared and Celtic have 3 teams participating. Under 17 A and B and also a team in the Under 17 girls league

my lad had the opposite effect with this...
in the 2010/11 season he played u10 in the ddsl at 9 in side games. He was a year out of his own age group and now for this season I've moved him to his own age group and is playing 7 a side in the kdul
The 7 a side games seem to suit this age group compared to the 9 a side he played last yr.
They'll play 9 a side in the SFAI cup this season but I think the jump to 11 a side next season might be too big a leap for them in 1 season
