    Setanta Cup format

Everyone loves a good format discussion, so I thought I'd start another one!

I barely noticed the Setanta Cup happening this year, there was no hype about it, and it was quite hard to find information even when I went looking.

I think the competition would be better if it were run as a two-week affair during the mid-season break for the LOI, and over the summer for IL clubs. Get all the games played at the one ground, alternating across the border each year. 2 groups of 4 teams, 3 from each side of the border, and then the winners of the groups play off in a final. Hype the living ****e out of it in the weeks beforehand, sell ticket deals for the whole thing. No clash with English football, and not so sporadic so people lose interest and forget it's happening. There would be an issue with international finals, but I'm sure the FAIFA Brains Trust could work out a way around that!

    What do people think?

The mid season break is there for players to rest though, pretty much all of them head away during this break.

All Premier teams north and south of the border should be in it each season, mini champions league format with groups stages and then straight into knock out games.

If this move back to winter football happens, just invite all senior teams north and south into a knock out AIL Cup. Open draw, just like the FAI/IFA Cup. Maybe drop the League Cup/LSC in return.

Won't make it madly more interesting, but I think it's the best thing to do with it. Something different to look forward to.

Can only imagine the fun if Dundalk, Rovers, Linfield and Glentoran were in the same group.

The Setanta Cup is already getting a new format for next season. I'll wait to see how it is run first but I think they have come up with the best set-up for it.
I certainly would not be for dropping the League Cup, it's a competition that can be worked on.

    It looks that way alright!
I just think in terms of promoting the domestic game, a League Cup final in the Aviva stadium 2-3 months before the end of the season with European football on offer is a good way to go.

I hear the FAI want rid of the League cup altogether to save money and put that extra cash into the Premier division.

Sure let's leave this one just for fun things we'd do with the Cup.

Like using representative sides made up of semi naked female models and for every goal they remove a piece of clothing (obviously there would be no 'keepers)?

That would revive any mans interest in anything, except test cricket, Lord knows but that bores the ****e outta me.

Is the "6 teams from each league, and 2 cup winners" format still going ahead?

It was never 6 teams for the league + cup winners

It was always 6 teams (total) from each of the 2 leagues. As Dundalk have been told they're in, its fairly safe to say the LOI six will be Pats, Bohs, Rovers, Sligo, Fingal and Dundalk.

Objection! On test cricket argument grounds, not on semi-naked models playing..
    The Model Club

Tell all the Bohs you know
that we've gone and won two-in-a-row
and it's not gonna be three
and it's not gonna be four
it's more likely to be 5-1.
