    Salthill

Late goal by Gareth McCurtain secured a valuable three points for Wexford in Ferrycarrig tonight in fairly low-key match. With a number of suspensions, Wexford started with Pa, Martin, Hopper, Anto, Gareth, Kevin, Greg, Shane, Deano and Muzzi and Ben up front. First fifteen was fairly quiet until Youths got a penalty when a free-kick was lofted into the box by Shane and ref. pointed to the spot and flashed a yellow presumably for impeding an attacker. Shane hit it low left for one-nil. Wexford then should have gone further ahead with Greg pulling a shot wide when well-placed and Shane having two good shots from just outside the box, one of which was blocked for a corner.

Salthill then equalised out of the blue when a good move carved the Youths defence wide open and their attacker rounded Pa and put it away for the equaliser. Kevin Rowe then scooped the ball over the bar from three yards out at the far post when stretching and half ended one-one.

Seciond half proved to be the equivalent in footballing terms of a steady autumn drizzle with little of note except for a couple of Wexford corners and one Salthill header going about a yard wide. Danny came on for Muzzi after about an hour and Shane Nolan for Martin later on. With about ten to go, another Wexford corner arrived at the near post and Gareth bundled the ball home from a couple of yards when Salthill couldn't clear. Salthill had a couple of corners after that but couldn't get on the end of anything and the match ended with Wexford holding the ball up in the corner at Salthill's end. Last sub. for Wexford was Robert Dempsey just at the start of injury time.

Best for Wexford were Shane and Deano and other highlights were the usually mild-mannered Noel O'Connor being sent to the stand for comments made while the suspended Gary and especially Packie did their best to support the lads from outside the perimeter of the pitch. Crowd looked the same as last game at about the low 200s.
