    Russell for FAI underage job?

I was listening to League of Ireland football show and heard it mentioned that Russell might be a contender to replace Sean McCaffrey. He sounds a fairly credible candidate, but would he jump ship at this point?

At the moment it is paper talk, although it was the 'Talk of the Terraces' at last Friday's Drogheda Utd. game.
He has been with us for at least five years.

A reminder of the FAI press release and Wim Koevermans quote
    http://www.fai.ie/index.php?option=c...r-19&Itemid=12
"We thank Sean for the service he has given to the Association and the development of our young players. After almost seven years in charge and with his contract expiring at the end of this year, the time is now right for a change of hands. The new Under-18 / Under-19 position will be advertised from tomorrow and we intend to make this appointment by the end of September. I take this opportunity to wish Sean every success for the future.”

I've already made one 'media quotes are Gospel' joke this week, but you know what they say "Today's headlines, Friday's confetti".
" I'll go right up to here,
    it can't possibly hurt.
All they will find is my
    beer and my shirt."

Saw in one of the papers last week Russell linked with job.

Is there any reason for this or has he publicly declared his interest?

The reason he is linked/mentioned is as De Niro says "he is a credible candidate" 'cos Russell already works with children and is considered successful. It's an easy connection for a media organ to make without fear of ridicule. To his credit, I believe De Niro might be in a better position to anticipate what may happen then many others.

I havn't seen any quotes from him or the club so far. That's why I describe it as 'paper talk', there's nothing tangible.

Sometimes emotive terms are used to described a person who moves from one job to another before a contract terminates, but I think there should be some maturity and understanding between the Summer Seasonists "Sunshine Boys" and the Winterers "Mr.Frosts/Hibernolanders".

My only source, and I say this honestly, was Brian de Salvo mentioning it on the League of Ireland football show. I hadn't heard it before or discussed it with anyone. Certainly no inside track on this one. However, I think if MR was to jump at this point in the season it would be a blot on his copybook, no matter what he could hypothetically achieve as a part of the FAI underage structure.

It was apparently in The Star last week as well. No idea if he's just being considered or if he's applied or if it's just paper talk. Would be quite a blow for us as I think the general opinion at Longford was that Aaron Callaghan is a great coach but not a manager.

But really we can but wait and see and beat Bohs on Friday.

I would imagine that if Martin does take up the position that it's entirely possible he could do that and the UCD job at the same time until the end of the season, given that we are in the final series of games. That's just speculation but a reasonable guess.

Hard to know what to read into that really, though it does look like he'd take the job if it were offered.
