Saw the extra time of Werder Bremen and Sampdoria. Very impressed with the latter who played some great football with Marin (a tricky winger playing some great stuff - reminded me of Messi). Sampdoria fans were also to be credited in applauding their team off the pitch despite the heartbreak of a 90th minute goal for the Germans and losing it in extra time. They then switched over to Partizan beating Anderlecht on penos. Everytime the ball was kicked the penalty spot went in to the air. Mad stuff with the Anderlecht keeper a mile off his line for every attempted save despite the Official on the line beside him.

That Werder-Sampdoria game looked like a cracker. Watched the first leg on RTÉ last week; Werder were cruising at 3-0 up and a man up, and then let in a sloppy late goal which nearly knocked them out. Some comeback from them in a game they should have had wrapped up at home.

Watched most of the Spurs vs Young Boys game. Spurs midfield not strong enough to see them progress much further in the competition. Bale seems to be really improving and is their biggest threat! Sad to see Robbie not get a run. He didn't exactly look ecstatic on the bench as Crouch completed his hat-trick.

Spurs are going to get ***** at the group stages (assuming they don't fluke an easy group). I cannot wait.

Defoe's goal was interesting. Two extra referees and yet they still can't spot a reasonably obvious handball. Wonder if that'll see the experiment ended at the season's end?
