Its probably in Drom so there will be more of a crowd there, and to promote the game out there as there a non-league club. I couldn't envisage many people headin to it were it to be played in Athlone or Longford

Apparently there was 700 at Dalymount last night for Bohs v Rovers. If the final had been held in Tallaght there probably would have been upwards of 1000.

Whatever about the Final, might be a good idea to delay the promotion play-off until after the licensing decision, as if either Cork or Derry are demoted, the match could become a dead rubber.

What's the story with this now ?

Obviously with Rovers being a Premier outfit, that means they can't be promoted. So I can only assume that no matter what happens Salthill are promoted. If they want to take up the position of course ?

This match is a final to see who wins the A Championship. There will be two separate playoff matches between Salthill and Kildare County to see who will be in the First Division next season.

I know, but they hadn't re-started the promotion thread at the time, so this was the next best place to discuss it.

Back on-topic. Is there any idea what sort of crowd will be at the game? Moving it to a stadium might have been a better option, crowd-wise perhaps?

There were 2-300 at Salthill's cup game against us a couple of years ago.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

Who'd go to the A League final between Salthill and Rovers in, say, Cork?

We typically got 300 or so for our A League/reserve division/U-21 finals. I'd say it'd be similar enough for this one. Would have gotten a good crowd in Tallaght I'd say, but nothing you can do about that now.

Rovers won 1-0 with a stoppage time goal from Don Cowen. From what I heard there was about 300 at the game. This just proves what a terrible decision it was to play the game here.

No it doesn't. Why should the game be held in the venue that gives the bigger crowd, even if that's at a disadvantage to the smaller club?

So it's better to play the game in front of 300 than possibly 1000? It's a final. Neither team should have any advantage.

Name me a neutral venue which would have gotten more than 300 at it. (And nowhere in Dublin counts as neutral)

And there was more value to Salthill playing a final at home than playing to 1000 in Cork, for example.

Why would Cork even be mentioned? Likely venue would be Athlone or Longford. Roughly half-way for both clubs. Rovers would deifnitely have brought a crowd to that. I'm sure Salthill would have pushed it more than they did. They obviously felt because they were at home against a big club the people would automatcially come out for it. Makes no odds now anyway. Just a pity, that's all.

Not a pity at all that a relatively minor final wasn't played in a town 70-80 miles away from both clubs, creating no local interest at all.

how could salthill have pushed it more? They dont have much of a geographical spread to choose from. 300 was great from there perspective, seeing as they usually get around 10-15 per match !
