    LOI Friendlies Betting

Plenty friendlies in the next few weeks and one that caught my eye is Shamrock Rvs v Newcastle United this Sat at 3pm.

Rovers are playing in Bray the night before so will surely have a weakened, and if not weakened, a tired team out for this one. Not to mention the other friendlies they have coming up.

Newcastle are 5/6 to win. Finn Harps beating Ipswich the other night showed the benefit of being in mid season compared to playing your first pre season game but I see 5/6 as value on Newcastle. They are in Ireland all week in Carton House so it's not like they'll be flying in the morning of the match.
I wonder do the bookies realise that Rovers are playing the night before when they priced up this game.

Newcastle players in the lash in Dublin the other night, fair few of them looking for other clubs, no manager in place, looks like a jolly boys outing.

What are we against Dundee United? We beat them last year with arguably a weaker team (certainly once morale's taken into account). United are a good side, but first game of pre-season against mid-table does make a difference.

I heard Rovers will have a few trialist playing for them which means they will be playing out of their skin to try and earn a contract and will be well up for it

It'd be common enough to play triallists in these games. We had four last year, for example. Adds to the general difficulty of calling the games. They'll be well up for it, but they mayn't be good enough, and they wouldn't be used to playing with their new team-mates (and vice versa)

Though I fancy Madrid on Monday week...

I think Newcastle look overpriced. Rovers' 1st team has the match the night before and the A team is away to Tralee on the Sunday. Rovers are hardly going to field much of a team for the Newcastle game?

On the Rovers site, O'Neill says they could do without the game and none of the players that play against Bray will be involved, it'll be reserves and trialists, obviously they'll be out to prove a point but it won't be near a full strenght Rovers.

Thrown a few quid on Newcastle at that price. Given the Rovers squad news 5/6 looks a very good bet.

Finished 0-3. Not sure on the goalscorers. Handy money though two late goals helped!

I'm on Leeds already, took the 5/6 on offer with Hills. It could be dodgy but we have a massive game on Friday so I'll take a Leeds win for this.

How many times have Shels played Leeds in recent years Raheny and what were the results?

A good few times now but can only remember last year. Finished 1-1 but we had a strong enough side out that day. Flood got injured in that game and we then went on a **** run of results. Keely has learned from his mistakes this time around I'm sure. Shels will probably line out with Trialists and u-20 players as well as our 2 new signings, one of them being 39 year old Maurice Farrell . However, over the weekend Leeds drew 3-3 with York and used 25 players!

Here's a post from our forum also:

"Met Bisto (Anto Flood) in The Bridge last night after the Dublin game. He said "none" of the first teamers would be playing. His brother will be starting in the back four though it would seem. Franco and this Latvian guy (a name would be helpful Shelsweb) more than likely start up front".

*Sigh*, Beckford should have been 4-0 up at half time and our peno was never a peno!
