    Richie Foran signs for Oxford

On a month's loan initially, but with a view to a permanent transfer. Jumps from bottom of the Third Division to the top.

Carlisle - de next Celtic ...
Oh, how de lowly have fallen (snigger)

I for one can't see how Carlisle was ever seen as a good investment by Courtenay, his money could have elevated an eL team's European performances much more effectively than getting Carlisle to de Premiership.

Fiar dues to Foran I hope he makes a succes of himself at oxford, who should be in div 2 next year.

It's great to see young paddies doing alright for themselves in england even if it is the lower divisions.

Diamien Delaney is doing well at hull too who are second in div 3,and get a good 20,000 average going to there games.

and Ben Burgess up front is getting amongst the goals as well, might be a bet in the long term. Think Delaney was Peter Taylor's (Hull manager) first buy after taking over, he worked with him at Leicester and Delaney was one of the players sold when they hit financial trouble.

Stephen Elliot notched the winner last night for the Man City reserves against their ManU conterparts, might push for a place on the bench if the striking injuries continue - Wanchope is out for 2 months, Fowler is crap and Macken is unproven.

Was talking to Swansea fans who saw Carlisle as evidence that Irish players who aren't with top English clubs from a young age aren't any good.
Probably had something to do with Roddy's claim that he was bringing over the best of Irish talent to the club and never seeing them do anything but struggle to stay up.
IMO Richie was promising but hadn't proven himself. His disciplinary record is appauling and he certainly wasn't one of the best players in the league at that time.

Carlisle has the farthest distance between it and the next league team (Newcastle), so hence the biggest catchment area so hence a lot of money (theoretically) to be had. Also a lot more money in the English game than in the Irish game.

And did I mention money? Methinks Courtenay likes it more than football itself.

eh, he was banging in the goals for city before his terrible run of injuries, scored for fun for preston and man u reserves as well. Think he's currently just gone out on loan as well, so elliott might make the bench at some point soon enough

sorry should have said "unproven at Premiership level". He's not gone on loan, came on for Fowler last night against Charlton. With 3 fit strikers in the first team squad (unbelievable for a Keegan team!) any injury or suspension would probably lead to Elliot sitting on the bench
