REAL FOOTBALL – REAL FANS – REAL CLOSE – REAL CHEAP!
Monaghan United FC wanted to give you some REAL reasons to come out and support your team this season.

The Mons play their football in the FAI League of Ireland, the top level of football in the country making this REAL FOOTBALL available to all.

Our REAL FANS come from every walk of life and are all ages but they all come together as one community cheering on their team.

Kingspan Century Park is located approximately 1 mile from Monaghan Town making your local FAI LOI club REAL CLOSE and accessible.

With the pressures of the current economic melt down becoming ever more evident, Monaghan United have decided to retain the admission fee of €10 for another season. This means that Monaghan United FC offer you football at a REAL CHEAP price and we have the lowest admission rate to any of the grounds in the league as most other venues have been charging at least €15 for the past number of seasons.

United’s concern for your wallet doesn’t stop there however. With our season ticket and particularly our Family season ticket offering great value for money, the club bar offering very competitive prices and our large range of Monaghan United/Nike branded replica gear, hats, scarves and beach towels at bargain prices, Monaghan United offers great value for money for the REAL FOOTBALL FAN in you.

We may not be REAL MADRID, but we are REAL FOOTBALL in your community at the right price.

    MINI LEAGUES OFF ON SUNDAY
The Monaghan United Monaghan Credit Union Mini Leagues will NOT go ahead this Sunday due to coaches on training courses.

The following week, weather pending, mini leagues will resume and the children will be coached by some of the Monaghan United Senior team players and manager Mick Cooke.

    JUVENILES UPDATE

Due to the poor weather conditions almost all matches involving our underage teams were postponed last weekend. The only match that escaped was the Monaghan United Under 15’s-v- Seatown in the League. (See match report elsewhere).

This weekend there is almost a full programme of matches planned, weather permitting.

Monaghan United’s Under 11’s are due to play Shamrocks at Fatima, Dundalk at 11am on Saturday morning while the Under 13’s are due to take on Muirhevnamor at Kingspan Century Park at 12.30 on the same day.

Also on Saturday Monaghan United and Monaghan Celtic Under 15’s are due to be in action. United are scheduled to play against Rock Celtic at home at 2pm with their Celtic counterparts playing Muirhevnamor at their home ground at the same time.

On Sunday Monaghan United’s Under 12’s are timetabled to play Bellurgan at home at 11am.

In the National Cup competition United’s Under 17’s are playing Maynooth Town away at 1pm.

Good luck to all our teams playing this weekend.

    MONAGHAN UNITED UNDER 15’S DRAW
    Seatown F.C. 1-1 Monaghan United

Monaghan United U - 15's worked hard to secure a draw against a good Seatown side in a top of the table clash in Dundalk on Saturday last. United got off to a slow start and battling against a freezing wind found themselves pinned in their own half for the majority of the first 40 minutes.

Seatown used the wind to good effect and aided by a partisan referee and some slack defending found themselves 1 - 0 up after 15 minutes. United were lucky not to concede another before the interval as Seatown dominated all areas of play. Courageous defending by Shane Larkin at right back and wingers Shane Hannon and Francie Smyth kept the interval score to the minimum.
Following a "hair dryer" discussion at the break United knuckled down and began to play football. Captain Conor's switch to striker was the catalyst in Monaghan's revival. On the 60th minute his sublime pass found Tommy Doody unmarked in the Seatown penalty area and Tommy made no mistake in levelling the score.

Monaghan controlled the remainder of the match and despite the best efforts of Seatown, they pushed forward at all opportunities. United could have nicked the winner in the final minute whenever Cian Byrne sliced a cross from Shane McKiernan with the keeper out of position. All in all a draw on the day was probably a fair result.

Joint manager Seamus Deeney was critical of the teams first half performance. While commending their battling spirit he warned against complacency and cockiness in their attempt to win 5 League titles in a row.

Team: Andy Fallon, Shane Larkin, Paul Mc Conkney, James Mc Allister, Shane Mc Kiernan, Shane Hannon, Conor Moynagh, Leigh Dunne, Francie Smyth, Cian Byrne, Gatis Logins, Tommy Doody, Shay Deeney, Colin Clerkin.

    NEW ASTRO PITCH UPDATE
Everyone is looking forward to commencement work on the full-size Astro-Turf pitch. When completed it will be fully floodlit and will be available all year round to all our teams and to any other clubs, schools etc in the region for training and playing on.

United are awaiting final sanction from the Department of Sports before works commence and the pitch should be available by early summer.

    CONGRATS TO OLIVER MARTIN
Congratulations to Monaghan Shopping Centre’s Oliver Martin who has received his UEFA “B” Coaching badge. Oliver had been working towards this qualification under the tutelage of the late Noel Reilly and faced his final assessment under Padraig Nicholson.

Although Oliver does the majority of his coaching in Carrickmacross, he has been very helpful to Monaghan United in the past and has also coached young children with special needs from the Co. Monaghan SNAP group and has worked with Jennifer Hill in the County Sports Partnership in providing coaching for groups from Co. Monaghan who took part in her Football for All programme.

Well done Oliver on your achievement from all at Monaghan United FC.

Good stuff keeping it at a tenner. Probably not able to put €140 up front so a tenner a time suits me...
