I have to say - personally I despise this whole 'Legends' ballix that the bigger English clubs have started doing.

It's basically a dubious brand extension - they only have one proper team, that can't play friendlies during the season as they're busy, and the public doesn't like second string teams, so now they've persuaded people that seeing old farts from the 70's and 80's is the next best thing, so they can still cash in regardless

What next - 'Man Utd look-a-likes eleven' : "See how Antonio from Oldham not only looks like Ronaldo, but also rolls around in the floor in a convincing impression whilst swearing in fluent Portuguese. A must for any United fan...".

    Dreadful....

AFAIK it's a venture headed by some ex-players. I don't think the clubs themselves have anything to do with it.

It is a load of crap, though.

    Quality post
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Its the official Man United Legends side.

Not really going to disagree with some of the comments on here, but, It does make money and im loving the fact we get the chance to see former Harps players back in Finn Park, always good PR.

United had a Man Utd Legends v Liverpool legends game last seaosn. Load of tosh to be honest, good luck to Harps, hope they mnake a few quid out of it but don't hold your breath, it is hard to get excited about the likes of Fraser Digby and Peter Barnes to be perfectly honest

Harps mad a significant sum of money from the Liverpool Legends game(and would of probably made a lot more if not for the bad weather that day). If these games raise money and possibly the profile of LOI and other semi-pro or amature teams, what harm?

I'm not knocking it as a fun-raising venture, as god knows we need the wonga in Irish football I was more tackling it from the philosophical viewpoint that English football has long since sold its soul, and the game is 'all about the money' and continually new ways of making that money. Man United having 3/4 kits in one season made them a lot of money, for example. But it also took the complete p!ss.

And by the way - if it's all about the money, you'd make a hell of a lot more cash for the club by importing smack from Holland and setting up a sophisticated distribution network for it across the country...

All the big clubs are officially involved in the Legends racket now - you wouldn't be able to use the name 'Manchester United' without the club's permission.

Some even have a whole formal 'annointing' process before someone is admitted into the ranks as 'a Legend', and they have them employed as matchday speakers, on sponsor trips to big away games etc.

They may as well just genetically clone 5 versions of each of their first team members and get them off making money and representing the cluib whilst the original plays football/trains/shops/spit-roasts.

Actually, no thats not entirely true, John Aldridge came up with the Liverpool Legends idea, it was not a official Liverpool side.
The side United are bringing to Finn park will be the first official Man United Legends.

Totally agree, this is why Stapelton, Irwin, Robson, Mcilroy, Bosnich and Viv Anderson should be a better draw.

With the amount of posting you're doing relating to this it starting appear that someone has cloned you..and each version is even more boring than the other on this subject... all the poster from Harps was doing was letting people that they intend holding a fund raiser based around the legends match.. you've turned it into a one man/woman borefest.

If money in the bank is the only consideration why not go the whole hog and have a Liverpool oul ******es XI Vs a ManU Arthritis ridden eleven in Finn Park?

Because it would cost a lot more and wouldn't have much in the way of appeal to Harps fans and would therefore make less, if anything at all.

And part of the point is to advertise Harps to potential fans, which you won't do by having Liverpool v United.

Finn Harps supporters are just as deluded and brainwashed as Obama supporters.
