What's the story with Garmston's links to Ireland, out of interest? I presume it's not through his mother's side. Garmston is hardly an Irish name; paternal grandmother?

not sure actually, his mother ran 100m for the UK - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonia_Lannaman - and his dad was physio for the British Olympic team - http://www.mgphysios.com/physiotherapy/ !
he's been involved with the FAI as far back as U15 level - http://www.fai.ie/international/yout...i-nations.html

Exactly. That's what confuses me about him; his connection to English sports is huge. Someone that well connected would surely be on the FA's radar.

Two weeks ago he was on trial with Leicester City. The weeks before that he was on trial with Sheffield United, in League 1. You've completely invented the part about him not being able to get a trial at a League 2 club.

Bizzarre... I rate him. Would think he'd be considered a gem of a sigining but the club move never materialises. It's not as if he'd cost much. You'd think Trap or whoever would advise a Seria A club to take a punt if they thought he was worth his salt. I think its a measure of what Trapp thinks of our players that none of his "unfashionable favourites" never got a sniff in italy as a low risk investment.
